I really can't tell the difference between a $400 EOTech and a $50 generic red dot. I cannot figure out what makes them so expensive, other than assumably being more durable...but you're not going into combat.

Why is there no middle ground between cheapo stuff and 'costs as much as some people's entire rifle' stuff?

Yeah, I know....sorry! Had to finish it up first!

PSA upper (that I've linked to at least once in this thread), PSA blemished lower, Magpul furniture and ASAP sling device (with MS3 sling to go on it, not pictured), with one of their "enhanced" trigger guards on as well.

The LPK is a Rock River kit (without trigger), and I added one of their 2-stage "National Match" triggers to it.

The EO Tech sight is currently got the camo pattern on it (Realtree, I believe), but I'm going to get another cover and battery compartment, and paint those with Flat Dark Earth paint, to match the Magpul furniture on it. Since the upper came with the front sight, I mounted an optional mil-spec BUIS behind the EO Tech.

It'll be going to the range this Friday, to get broken in.

Very nice!

Would it be rude to ask how much you invested dollar wise?

I'm such a bitch, I think I need the safety on my 1911 modified as the furthest part forward that is bent down just stabs me right in the soft meat behind my thumbnail. The problems of being tall and having long fingers.

would like to see a pic of your grip...confused how this is happening.

I'll try to get a picture up when I finally get off work tonight. It's when I'm putting it back on safe. My thumb is riding on top of the safety while it's not on safe obviously.

Umm, there are some mid levels if you are looking for that. Usually aimpoint/eotech stuff just has battle tested durability to justify their cost. That's not saying other stuff isn't just as durable, but that they haven't been put to the same tests usually either. Mainly because the other products are looking to compete for a military contract.

Then top it off with plenty of "bad" products out there which aren't all that good and most people would rather stick with the tried and true, regardless of the cost, than to investigate further.

This was a bit of an argument I got into on another forum that I got banned from. For having the audacity to mention that not everyone needs an eotech/aimpoint even if they can afford one. Especially if you aren't planning to have your gun ran over by a tank.

That is one thing Eotech/aimpoint tried to do with their hardware. Make them idiot proof for the front line soldiers that may not properly take care of their equipment, and expect them to function in extreme situations. For a home user, how often are you planning to drive over your gun, drop it in a tar pit after wards, and then drag it through a sand dune before having to fire another 1000 rounds after not having cleaned a thing for the previous 5000 rounds.

Don't get me wrong, they are the best of the best considering track record. You can't go wrong with an Eotech or Aimpoint, but does a home user really "need" such a sight even for proper reliable home defense? Fuck no.

pretty sure i know which sites you mean, plus have even seen on it more friendly sites. to mention anything other than the best and they make fun of you or say you don't know anything.

And that is why I love this place. No one ever 100% agrees on anything. People get heated and argue. But in the end we always end up respecting each other's opinions. And let a mod ban someone just for stating their opinion. This place turns into LA after the Rodney King verdict.

Put your thumb on or over the safety.

I've used poster putty and painter's tape IIRC. Then refinished with boiled linseed oil (what oil you use depends on what you are restoring/your preferences)

It's a new CMP stock, as this is one of the CMP rebuild Garands. I'm finishing it with Tung oil. Got the rifle stripped tonight, hopefully I'll have time over the next few days to get it masked, sanded and cleaned so I can start applying oil on Saturday.

Man i need to do that too. Have two Mosin M44 (ones a type53) stocks i need ot refinish. Just been to lazy and been wanting ot borrow my dads power sander.

I did get the Magpul 1911 grips to try out. The one complain i have always had with the Rock Island 10mm 1911 has been the grips. Shooting hotter loads the rips just hurt my hands. To my texture . So swapped out the Magpul ones to give em a whirl. They definitely feel much better. The feel a lot more like my Sig 226 type grip. I can tell they are a little more textured than the 226 grips though but i dont think they will be nearly as bad.

Ill take it ot the range this weekend and see how it really feels though

Make sure to properly go over it after applying each layer, else it'll be shiny.

Just tape over the metal. Tung oil won't hurt it, and your priority isn't to get oil inside the stock, for the most part.

Finally did a little painting on my PSA lower, used Testors model paint and I think it turned out pretty nice...still need to do some cleanup but this only took me ~1 hour to do

And on another bright note I got my new P938 out to the range on Monday, despite hearing how they didn't like 115gr ammo it burned through 100 rounds of WWB without a hitch along with 25 rounds of 135gr Hornady +P...looks like my new carry gun is about ready for use:awe: Only problem I had was one of the 7 round mags would only hold 6 about every third time I loaded it, think the spring is binding up under the follower for some reason, but it functioned fine regardless

Dang, nice job on the lower corwin!
Thanks...the white lettering in the rollmark was the hardest part, I was originally planning on making the cannon balls grey but I don't know that it would really show up...might still do it one day if I get bored. Now I need to paint my new zombie lower, maybe that will inspire me to figure out what to build it into

Looks nice - definitely post a shot when the gun is built!

The forward part bends downward and if I try to use the first joint of my thumb to move the safety up, the bend downward part is stabbing me right in the soft flesh to the right of my finger nail.

I'll just chalk it up to me needing to use another method of re-safetying the pistol via breaking my grip and using the pad of my thumb upward or my support hand thumb to do the same thing.

Receiver looks nice.

Glad to hear your results on the 938. I was tempted to pick one up as well but didn't because I was afraid of problems the gun seemed to have been going through at the time I was considering a purchase. Then again SIG does at least fix things in a nice and timely manner I may have to pick one up eventually then. Then it would be a hard choice between the 238 and the 938.

So much AR15 love in here, gotta mix it up a bit

Improper reloading was probably the case in all of these. Be careful!

For me it wasn't too hard of a choice, ballistic advantage of 9mm over .380 along with price of ammo made it easy The size difference is the only advantage I can see in the 238 and it's a very small one...

I've seen most of those before, wish I had the time to reload but I don't so it's all factory ammo for me, so I'm probably safe

I'd think again. I've had more failures with factory ammo than with reloads. Have had factory ammo with light charges, had em where the bullet just falls out, and had them just plain not chamber. All from the cheap wwb type stuff. Never had an issue with self defense type ammo. Reload wise only issue I've had was a bad batch of primers that wouldn't fire at all.

Worst kaboom I saw was a friend with a 223 ar. Had his 300blk out with him and had mags of both in black pmags on the bench. Grabbed a pmag loaded with 300blk and loaded the 223 ar. Dropped the bolt, pulled the trigger and well 30cal bullet won't ft in a 224 chamber. Surprisingly it only damage the upper itself and the barrel. Everything else was fine. He was fine too. Gunsmith said what probably happened is the bcg had enough pressure to go back which let most of the gases escape. Whether true or not I have no idea. But only the

The smith did cut the barrel and rechamber it and shot it.
