I'm not sure why you'd want to fire tracers in a self-defense situation, unless you're looking to give away your position.

Standard M192 ball or M855 is fine. Shouldn't be more than 35 cents/round for either one. Shot placement matters more than what ammo you buy, ultimately.

What's the difference between M192 and M193 ammo?

Any NC ccw permit holders here? For carrying in a car, without a permit, looks like pistols have to be in plain sight. With a permit, I can conceal it (obviously) but does that include an unlocked console or just on my person?

EDIT: "Appears" that as long as I have a valid out of state permit, with reciprocity, that I can carry in the console.

I don't know about NC, but in PA if you don't have a license to carry and it's anywhere in your car (and you're not going directly to a range/shooting event/hunting) then it's considered concealed.

QFT...you have to know your local laws.

For me I can't open carry in my state (fuck you Florida!) (edit" outside where it would be normal like hunting, gun shows, gun events, ranges, etc)

This is the Florida law on guns in your vehicle:
Vehicle carry without a license is permitted.

Handguns – must be either "securely encased" or not immediately available for use. "Securely encased" means in a glove compartment, whether or not locked; snapped in a holster; in a gun case, whether or not locked; in a zippered gun case; or in a closed box or container which requires a lid or cover to be opened for access. Carry of a Handgun on one's person inside a vehicle without a license is not permitted (except in the case of open carry in accordance with the law outlined above). Once a handgun is securely encased, it can be stored anywhere inside the vehicle and is not limited to just the glove compartment/center console.

Long Guns – a legal firearm other than a handgun may be anywhere in a private conveyance when such firearm is being carried for a lawful use.

When you are in a vehicle it's tricky if your concealment/open carry or the vehicle's is what's first in line.

Always know the local laws.

Thanks. Called 2 counties...the sheriff's approve the permits in NC...and got the same answer. If I'm valid, then I can act like a NC resident with a permit...in the console. Tried to wade through the NCDOJ site without much success.

I do not like ambiguity if it could get me locked up.

"Sorry, Honey, I have to stay home."

How about I try to not get stopped....

Unlocked console or under seat is verboten. A locked console or dash is fine with permit.

Without a permit you just want to be sure that it is 100% in the open. Under NC law if a gun is partially hidden from anyone it is considered concealed.

I guess i am then Im actually surprised at how many of the lgs's around me carry ar parts. Might not have the best selection but almost all of them carry magpul and the basic m4 selections.

O i agree with you. Certain things will require a gunsmith. A AR *should* be checked for headspace but i know tons of people who dont bother and have been fine. I was more leaning to more people swapping barrels, triggers, ect now a days thanks to the internet vs in the earlier days having ot go to a gunsmith to do it.

Either way that all segways into my latest build....which is form 1 for sbr so hopefully in a few months itll have a stock on it.

Rainier Arms ultramatch lower
Rainier Arms Ultramatch upper
Rainier Arms Ultramatch 8.5" 300 blackout barrel
Syrac Adjustable gas block
AAC Brakeout muzzle device
geissele ssa-e
random assortment of lpk
Troy 7" FDE rail (not sure on this but got it for a good price)
Magpul Maid grip
Magul AFG2
Phase 5 pistol buffer tube
EOtech 512

shown with the 762-SDN itll be used with 95% of the time

How do you like that EOtech 512? I will be going with an EOtech on mine, just trying to decide between latest and greatest (minus any nightvision capability, not needed) or that 512 to use AA batteries.

The little bit ive used it i have liked it. Its more of just a range toy than anything for me. But the sight is good and it works just fine.

If i were to buy another one though....i'd probably go for one of the CR123 battery types just cause they are a bit more compact. Well guess it depends. For a 16" rifle the 512 is perfectly fine. For a SBR is when i would go for the cr123 battery type ones just for the size

Are you sure about this? The NC laws I just read say it cannot be concealed OR readily available; so open on the front seat isn't acceptable. From what I've read, WITH a permit, anywhere in your vehicle is acceptable - be it on your person or your glove box (unlocked or locked) - especially as you're allowed to leave a firearm in your LOCKED car in the trunk, glove box or any other "container" while on school grounds, for example.

D. Transporting Weapons
Given this general prohibition of carrying concealed weapons, individuals must be ever
vigilant to ensure their particular situation cannot be construed as concealing a weapon, either on
or about them, without being properly authorized to do so with a valid North Carolina, or
recognized out-of-state concealed handgun permit. Therefore, the permittee's accessibility to the
weapon is of prime importance. It is unlawful to transport a weapon (absent a proper permit) that
is BOTH concealed and readily accessible to a person. It is for these reasons, that when
transporting a weapon in a vehicle, even greater care must be exercised to ensure that the weapon
is not concealed and within the ready access to an occupant of the vehicle. North Carolina law
does not specifically address how to transport a weapon in an automobile. Therefore, the central
question becomes: when is the weapon concealed and readily accessible to an occupant of an
automobile? Obviously, a weapon would be concealed and readily accessible, and therefore in
violation of North Carolina law, if it were placed in such areas of a vehicle as under the seat of
22 the automobile; in a bag in the back seat; or in some other manner is covered or hidden within
the easy reach of an occupant of the vehicle. It is our recommendation that firearms should not
be carried in a glove compartment regardless of whether the compartment is locked or not.
While a weapon carried openly in an automobile would not be concealed, there are other
problems specific to this method of carrying a weapon. The principal drawback, of course, is in
the event of an individual being stopped by a law enforcement official, the officer may not
readily know that individual's purpose and intent for carrying a weapon. As such, it is imperative
that an individual immediately notify an officer of the presence of any weapon in the automobile,
for the officer's and the vehicle's occupants' safety. Another obvious drawback is that a valuable
weapon may be in plain view for potential thieves to see. The prohibition to carrying concealed
weapons applies not only to handguns and other weapons commonly thought of as being easily
hidden, but also to "long guns" as well. Therefore, shotguns and rifles concealed behind the seat
of pickup trucks, and elsewhere in other vehicles, could similarly violate North Carolina law.

I have a EOtech on my Noveske build that I really like. I really like the field of view with it when I'm moving. The magnifier flips to the side, allowing me to use just the XPS for moving/close targets. I get the best of both worlds with this set up. Aimpoint also makes some really good stuff. If you look them up, you'll find the war is just as bad as Xbox vs Playstation.

For carrying in a car in NC it needs to be plainly visible. Not under the seat and not in a console. Also be conscious if your open carrying. As most folks are right handing your holster is on the right side, once you sit in your car it becomes concealed to the officer on a traffic stop. Loaded or unloaded it doesn't matter, if it's concealed it's illegal. Best place is either in your trunk or on the passengers seat in plain view.

So I was browsing Gunbroker and happened to notice that the new line of KRISS-imported Sphinx pistols are now widely available. Ooooh baby. Me want.

I was stunned to see them selling for around $1000...

...that's CHEAP! ...for a Sphinx.

But then I remember that's really expensive. For me.

I had a 512 on my AR-15 for awhile until I recently replaced it with a Burris MTAC 1-4. I liked the EOTech quite a bit, never had a problem, and intend on keeping it and putting it on another gun. I tried it on my AK but that Burris scope came with a Fastfire III that works way better since it's so small and light.

Yeah, these are the newer ones with hybrid aluminum/polymer construction, not the traditional all-metal 2000 or 3000 models. They are still supposed to be really really nice though.

Was able to pick this up today from the local paper, unfired, for $700. Colt LE6920

Nice score. For a "investment" type buy thats a dang good deal. Could probably flip it for 800 right now or hold on to it till the next election and get 900 for it...or wait for the next ban attempt and get even more lol

My father had one of these before he passed away a few years ago with a stainless scope on it.

Ruger Mini-14 .223 in SS.

Wish I'd have bought it a few years ago, I asked him about it and he had all ready sold it.

Would prefer one over an AR-15 myself, but I do not shoot much these days anyways I guess.

No offense intended, I went to boot camp and went to the range with M-16's.

AR-15's I've never really gotten the vibe off of, unless it's just saying you have one.

They just seem a bit cheap to me to be honest, but they were originally intended to be built on the cheap to begin with and the parts mass produced I suppose.

I'd still take this .223 over an AR-15 these days that I have.

*shrug* but I guess that one a bit pricey actually.

The scope used to be as much as the rifle, almost.
