Anybody know a bit about lever-actions?

I've got a Super Blackhawk that I'm considering getting rid of. Value $400-500. Someone offered a Marlin 1936 in 30-30 for it. I'm intrigued because a) I like old stuff and b) I've always wanted a lever gun.

Well, I did end up trading my Blackhawk.

But for this.

[/URL]

Boner. I've always wanted a Detective Special. In pretty-much-as-good-as-you-can-ask-for nickel, no less.

Nice old colt, for a lever action would be hard to pass on one of those Marlin 30-30's though too.

I don't have one these days, but used to love those things.

Grats on the Colt looks nice.

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

As far as lever actions go, if I ever bought one again it probably would be an old Marlin 30-30, just loved that thing years ago.

I had to pass on the 30-30 because the stock was messed up. Somebody had put a screw through it, assumably to fix a split.

This Colt is absurdly nice. It actually has the shittiest trigger I've ever felt on a Colt revolver...but I know exactly why. It hasn't been broken in. On a forty year old gun.

Ack, yeah doing that to the 30-30 was pretty much wasting the thing.

You could have gotten another stock, but yeah why bother at that point.

He needs too if he wants to sell it.

I'm pretty sure you'll fix the breaking it in problem, is much nicer than getting one that is worn out

Haven't looked in awhile but if I remember correctly from that last time, I'd say about 400 in decent used condition.

So I got some kind of cool news. Recently, I got my first gun: a used Glock 19 gen 4 with some bells and whistles, including Ameriglo night sights, extended slide release, and a 3.5 lbs "ghost trigger" mod.

Well as it turns out, the "ghost trigger" was actually my noobish understanding of the mod. "Ghost Trigger" is an aftermarket product, whereas I thought it was just a nickname for a lighter, 3.5# trigger. Someone at the range who competes in GSSF matches took a look at my gun and said I actually have polished, Glock-OEM, 3.5 lbs trigger parts from a gen 3 G34. So the end result is that my Glock 19 is still reliable, plus it's still legal in the non-unlimited divisions in GSSF matches. Not that I'm ready to compete or anything, but it's cool to know that I could if I wanted to. Sweet

In other news, I got a free 3 hour lesson with Travis Tomasie. Holy crap, that guy is good. Not only is he a great shooter, which everybody knows, but he's a fantastic teacher. Go see him if you ever get the chance. Good guy in general, and he's pretty sharp, to boot. It's not often that you meet an athlete with a level of diction beyond that of some college professors.

you're a liar, everyone knows gun owners are neanderthal rednecks! or so the anti-gunners would have you believe.

So little confused about FFL transfers. I've gotten 3 guns transferred to my local FFL before and never had an issue. For my mossberg, I ordered it through Gunbroker from Red's trading post and I called them up yesterday afternoon and they told me they're still waiting to hear from my FFL.
When I checked out, I specified my FFL during checkout (it was in gunbroker's database) so I assumed they would have all the info they need. Do I need to call my FFL today and have them call Red's trading post?

I would. I've had to drive a few things like this before so I personally wouldn't leave anything to chance.

Guys give me your top 3 accessories you should get first for an AR15. Please list them in order of importance.

They are in gun broker's database as someone you can use, but I wouldn't think that means sellers have access to every listed ffl's license.

Ahhh I see the disconnect. I assumed that sellers on Gunbroker had access to their FFL database. I called up this morning and my LGS emailed the info over. Can't wait to get my grubby paws on my shotgun!

That may sound trite.
But theres more and more places which wont let you shoot military rifles these days.
My private club banned them a couple years ago and it seems only just this summer we might get them back.

Just curious - How does your club define "military rifles" and is the definition in writing or just someone's opinion??

its a club with members and rules. Everything is in writing.
The definition is very wide (just like many state definitions) and many members didnt care for it.

In fact we lost almost half our people because a handful of grumpy old men run the board and dont like anything fun.

Then they doubled the dues for everyone who stuck around.

Yeah, I can see why they wouldn't want a .50 cal, but does an AR15 get thrown into that mix? What about M1 Garands?

Honestly, this seems like a great policy for "new" business that completely destroys the core business. Unless this is the gun range.

"more and more"? The only restrictions I've ever run into have been on caliber, and that's usually due to the nature of the backstop.

Like I said, just curious, because there aren't many rifles I haven't seen issued to the "military" around the world, even .22s

Living in the original, most black rifle unfriendly state, even I have at least 5 ranges around me I can go shoot my ARs at no problem.

its not a business. Its a club. But they manage to fuck it up anyways.

I only go there cuz its open 24/7.

One thing ive noticed about a lot of clubs that have the older guys running the board. They create some of the most stupid, odd, rules out there. We have a range that for awhile had a rule of "only one round loaded at a time".

i know all the older guys who go to the range im a member at all they do is shoot black powder or 22lr/17hmr type rifles. They will shoot 1 round, get up and BS with each other for 5 minutes, go shoot another round, repeat for 2-3 hours. Had a few walk by and make stupid comments to me and my dad. Walk by and go "youd better pick up all your brass" or just make comments about our guns along the lines of how they arent hunting rifles or "classics".

Course not all the old guys are that way. Talked to a few who were super nice. Talk about reloading, mine and their AR's, different bolt guns, all sorts of stuff.

On another note wanted to give a nice shout out to midsouth shooters supply. Ive had powder on back order for over a year. Varget is what has been holding it up. Today midsouth came out and said they would ship any instock powder from a currently backordered order for free. So i can get the powder that is instock now and not lose my place "in line" for the varget. Nice of them to do that.

Course im sure some of it has to do with them probably having a ton of back orders and running out of space to store orders lol
