pretty good looking rifle there Fenixgoon

with the labor day sales last week I started building a new upper, snagged an Anderson stripped LW upper for $40, and a 8$ middy gas tube, from AIM Surplus

I also snagged a 12" ALG Defense EMR Rail from Primary Arms for $119 shipped

going for a lighter-weight ~16 upper, will end up with a LW or pencil barrel in 14.7" or 16"

DTI has a 'lw' 16" barrel but they dont list the weight.

I know that the DD lw barrel is great, but I want 1:8 or 1:9 twist and to not spend 300+ on just the barrel

I'm just focusing/debating on adding a Springfield to my collection by next month...hard thing to rationalize at the moment since I moved this month and paid rent on two apartments. I move out of the old one on the 17th so I'm getting some of that back.

I'm decided on caliber. Not size, though.

Their advertisement of 'no bullshit pricing' in that ad, followed by 'our listed prices are cash prices, credit cards cost more, but we're not even going to bother to use this space to explicitly tell you how much more' makes me want to never, ever do business with them.

A psychiatrist explains why the mentality of anti-gun people:

http://jpfo.org/filegen-n-z/ragingagainstselfdefense.htm

"You don’t need to have a gun; the police will protect you."

"If people carry guns, there will be murders over parking spaces and neighborhood basketball games."

"I’m a pacifist. Enlightened, spiritually aware people shouldn’t own guns."

"I’d rather be raped than have some redneck militia type try to rescue me."

How often have you heard these statements from misguided advocates of victim disarmament, or even woefully uninformed relatives and neighbors? Why do people cling so tightly to these beliefs, in the face of incontrovertible evidence that they are wrong? Why do they get so furiously angry when gun owners point out that their arguments are factually and logically incorrect? How can you communicate with these people who seem to be out of touch with reality and rational thought? One approach to help you deal with anti-gun people is to understand their psychological processes. Once you understand why these people behave so irrationally, you can communicate more effectively with them.

Or over road rage incidents? Of course, that has never happened...

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/headlin...and-kill-each-other-after-road-rage-incident/

I'm not against gun ownership but I am generally distrustful of people so I have some very real concerns over allowing people to carry concealed weapons.

So I'm thinking about starting my first AR build and making a M-16A2 clone. Who makes a good lower that isn't covered with ridiculous roll marks?

buds does that as well, and they say 3% pretty clearly

Just irks me that they say 'no bullshit pricing,' when they mean 'no; bullshit pricing!' Be a typical online gun retailer all you want; but don't claim to be different when you're not.

Where, other than guns, does someone charge extra for not sending a fucking check? Do people actually use checks to pay for guns from Bud's?

On an unrelated note...fuck:

New-to-me gun. Shot it today for the first time. Failed to go into battery after a few rounds, and saw this. Looked back at the Gunbroker listing (describing 'great condition') and, now knowing what to look for, noticed that I got sold a gun that most definitely already had a damned cracked slide. Extremely hard to pick out, but you can just see the little hairline in a couple pics.

Did not expect this at all- cracked Witness slides were always limited to the later rounded slides (at least...so everyone says) and almost always .45 or 10mm.

Guess I should stick to Czechs and Turks for my guns. Fuckin' hairball Italians.

If guns are such a problem...well, shouldn't there be a much higher glut of gun violence? There are around 300,000,000 guns in the US (yes, 300 million.) If you spread that out, it's almost one gun to every person in the US. In actuality it's around 50% of homes have guns (though as there is no gun register, it's hard to pinpoint that number...and I like that.)

Personally, there was ONE instance of road rage I was involved in when I was armed. I had my S&W Model 29 .44 magnum (you know, Dirty Harry's gun) on me when some jackass tried to run me off the road. He decided he was merging into me. I almost forced the issue to the point where he would have hit me and been in the wrong...and then realized that explaining to a cop that I had a CPL and was lawfully carrying was a bad idea.

The point I'm making here is that the percentage of gun violence precipitated by people who lawfully own guns and lawfully carry them is exceedingly low. Most people who lawfully carry are not likely to shoot you because you didn't signal; many of these people (spidey not included) are overly conscious of carrying a gun and are thus less likely to cause an incident. Of all the people I know personally who carry, most are very responsible. One is a little over zealous (but won't pull a gun or anything...he just really likes his guns) and lastly, one who is a complete moron and should never carry a gun ever again in his entire life.

Depends on what you consider "ridiculous"...but PSA has one with no rollmark at all if that's what floats your boat
"stealth" lower

Not a check but my first purchase from Bud's I did a bank transfer to get the "lower" price...took them 5 days to process it:\ And I've seen quite a few places charging more to process credit card payments since they are being charged, it's usually just smaller places though...

I would throw a shit fit with the seller, especially if you can see it in the pics they posted

That was going to be my recommendation as well. If you don't mind the roll mark look up anderson manufacturing as you can get them dirt cheap and are solid lowers, Wideners has them for $43. Don't get hung up on the brand. With a few exceptions a lower is a lower. There is little to no point in paying for a certain brand.

Anderson is actually one that I do think looks ridiculous, though more for the oversized font used for the model/caliber designation than the rollmark itself...they are cheap and work despite that though...I have always been pretty fond of the simple Spider on Spike's lowers myself, filled in with red they look pretty cool. I'm (finally) going to start building my Spike's Zombie lower here shortly, just order a LPK for it with foliage green MOE grip, not sure where I'm going to take it from there

I agree, it's pretty bad. That's why I said if you can stand it. I'm not a fan of spikes either, don't want a giant spider on my gun. Just different strokes for different folks. Personally I like aeros logo and they can be had for dirt cheap to if you keep your eye out.

I'm eyeballing the 9mm compact myself. Would be my first handgun and I like the fact that you can slip in the 13 rd magazine for carrying and the 19 rd one to make an almost fullsize handgun. Haven't had an opportunity to shoot one to see how it feels, though.

That's why it's nice to have so many options And I'm pretty sure Aero makes lowers for a bunch of other places too like PSA, but my memory could be faulty on that...

Nope, you are correct. They are the oem for several companies, who exactly other than spikes is pretty unknown as they don't like to put that out there.

I thought so...funny how so many places slap their name on something and charge so much more for it and people pay it...I mean you wouldn't pay more for a Ford Focus just because they put BMW emblems on it At least with Spike's they are still pretty reasonable and they do some pretty cool special editions
