- S&W Shield 9mm - this was a major surprise. I was expecting unicorn farts every time I pulled the trigger, judging by the way people praise and hype the gun. It was just okay. I also didn't like the sight alignment, but I ignored that and chalked it up to being a beat up rental.

- Springfield XDS 9mm 3.3 - this was the biggest surprise. Even though this gun is one of the shortest in height out of all the ones I tried, since the trigger guard is undercut pretty aggressively, I can actually fit my pinky on the lip of the flush magazine, effectively making it a "3 finger gun" for me, even when in the most concealable configuration. I was also the most accurate with this gun, which is a surprise because the PM9 has a match grade barrel. The trigger was great, too.
...
I went ahead and ordered one online; I'll post pics when I get it. Free shipping, so I'm assuming it'll be a couple weeks. Also, it turns out I can get 3 extra mags and some other goodies for free after rebate, so I'll end up with 5 mags, a holster, and some other stuff for $510. Not bad. I went into this ready to pay whatever I need to pay to have a gun that works for me, but $510 is pretty damn good, considering I almost went with a P938.

Are you talking about the Shield having a smaller raised front sight? I think that's standard on the M&P pistols, my compact is the same way. Anything else...yeah, rentals.

That XD gear promo is a great deal. I'm working up to get an XDM-45 by month's end. It's hard to argue with 65 rounds of .45ACP, and I'd have a solid start for IDPA.

Great choice slugg! I think you'll like it. I haven't shot a XDS but a Springfield XD-9 was my first pistol. I still have it and like it a lot.

Yeah, I have an XD Tactical in 357sig and I love it. The trigger is way better than the one in my Glock 20 (10mm) and isn't nearly as hard on the hand when shooting a hundred rounds. I recently add a Leupold DeltaPoint Reflex Sight but haven't tested/setup yet -- hope to do that today.

Just picked up the RRA LAR-15 R3 Competition yesterday and hope to put some rounds through it today. I added the some MBUS Pro sights front and rear as well as an EOTech EXPS3-2 weapon sight with Vortex VMX-3T flip up magnifier. I plan to order a rail for the bottom of the handguard to mount a flashlight, bipod adapter and sling adapter. I'm also looking to rig up an adapter for my Magnetospeed V3 chrono bayo so I can install/remove without messing with the crappy strap arrangement it comes with.

Let me know how you like the Vortex magnifier. For the 300 BLK AR pistol I'm building, I think I'm gonna put my spare EOTech 512 on it and pick up that Vortex magnifier. Fricking magnifier from EOTech is way too expensive.

In other news... I still haven't seen 22LR in a store since I've picked up this hobby. Fail.

What stores are you checking? I haven't seen it in any Walmart around here (though I've been told I missed it by 30 minutes a few times now), but I have found it in Cabelas regularly. They might not have ton, and often all they have is Mini-Mags, but it's at least something to plink with.

Ask your local Academy (at the Gun/Sporting area) when will the delivery date be and then come early (as in when they open) and you could get some. Probably 2 boxes per person.

What local Academy? The only academies we have around here have a bunch of nuns and school girls.

Academy Sports = http://www.academy.com/

or Cabela's or Bass Pro Shop. Just have to ask around when their shipping will be in and come early in the morning if you want some .22LR.

No Cabelas in Florida. Nearest Bass Pro is 3 hours away. No Academy in Florida that I know of. There's one Gander Mountain about 45 min away and two Dicks (lol) within 30 min. Aside from independent shops, the only other store is Walmart. The scalpers have deals with te guys behind the counter and it's impossible to score any ammo. fail.

Well, then you will have to deal with online stores.

PSA has this = http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/magtech-22lr-sv-40gr-round-nose-lead-50bx.html

but you have to pay shipping unless you can wait when they have free shipping days.

Sig 938 folks... I usually grip this handgun (Right handed) as high as I can into the beavertail. However when shooting several magazines of normal 9mm or a few +p rounds, the ambi safety portion on the right side of the gun hits/digs into my hand just around the first knuckle of my trigger finger which gets to be annoying to painful. Have any of you had this issue? I'd love to dremel that side smooth but it is a carry gun so I'd rather not modify it from stock too much...

Yep. I can get it online all day long. Just have to buy enough to offset the shipping cost. Ten cents a round is about right. Two bricks plus shipping runs me $120. No sales tax offsets the shipping by almost half. My semi auto pistols are a little picky tho. Those don't cycle well with certain .22. I pay a little more for CCI Blazer or Remington Golden Bullets for those.

Yikes, ten cents a round for .22 LR? Fuck that bullshit. Prices may never come back to what they were ($20 for 525 or 550 round packs of Federal) but I ain't paying more than $0.06, maybe $0.07 a round for the time being. There's no reason for the cheap shit to be any more than that. The last time I saw any .22 LR was at Walmart about six weeks ago, and it came out to $0.05/round for Remington Thunderbolt.

Sadly i doubt we we see prices of two years ago ever again for any caliber. Companies realized people will pay the dollar or two more a box a still be happy. So why stop charging it Last time i bought ammo 9mm was 200 bucks and 45acp was 300 bucks per 1k. Prices have come down but still not back to those levels (which were only a few months prior to Sandy Hook).

But thats also the life we live in. Doesnt just apply to guns but rather to everything pretty much Once something goes up in price, rarely will se see it come back down

Bulk ammo prices are generally crap, I've noticed. Even your example of 200/300 for 1k rounds makes it $10 a box for 9mm and $15 a box for .45.

You'd think that kinda quantity would lower prices, but for me that is the same price I can buy Tulammo (which is not that bad- primers are extra-hard but it's way better than Monarch) by the box. Or about $3-4 less than Winchester, Federal, or S&B.

.45 seems to always be about $20-25 a box, though.

Anyway, what I was gonna say was simply that it's really strange to walk into a shop and see ammo cans or other bulk packaging selling anywhere from 500-3000 rounds for pretty much the exact same price per round as what a box of 50 costs.

I made a IWB holster for my P290:

The positioning of the belt clip is not optimal for concealment; gonna have to move that so I can get it a little deeper into my waistband and also give it more cant. Right now it still works well and is hella easy to draw, though.

Mostly, I just like my concept. The kydex folds all the way around the trigger guard, with a total of four Chicago screws holding the kydex to the leather. I've got the comfort of a hybrid, the protection and retention of all kydex (also easy reholstering), and it's in a package the size of an all-leather IWB (thinner, though).

very cool

I received a bravo concealment holster with my kahr, that seems nice, but it sjust kydex so the pistol rides on my skin. im thinking I need to get some leather and fix that

Im interested in how you are doing this and where you are getting your materials

He posted about it in this thread if you want to dig back for it. I'm sure if you searched kydex and his username you'd find it.

I'm still eagerly awaiting the Walther CCP - the single stack gas-operated 9mm. The Walther PPQ is probably the best full-size 9mm out there now owing to its near perfect ergonomics and amazing trigger. Hopefully the CCP delivers as well in a compact form.

Well I managed to hit the range Monday afternoon and shot 3 of my 4 guns. I sighted in the DeltaPoint on thr XD Tactical 357sig at 5 yards and the RRA LAR-15 R3 Competition with Eotech EXPS 3-2 at 25 yards as that was the furthest the indoor range could give me.

I sighted the 357sig to be zero at 5 yards, but I sighted the R3 to be about 2 inches low at 25 yards as that should be pretty close to zero at 100 yards.

Put a total of 215 rounds downrange -- very relaxing.

The one thing I'm going to look at is the mount for the Vortex as it seemed to loosen up twice. Not sure the mount is sufficient.

And here it is!

I played with it a bit, as far as dry firing and disassembly, but I won't get to the range until some time next week. So far, I'm really loving it! And it's cool to have something other than my Glock 19. Although I've been getting pretty good at shooting it...
