Was wondering how the .22 ammo sitation is in your neck of the woods?

A friend called the other day and told me that the local Academy story had .22 ammo ... but you had to ask for it. The wife and I stopped by the next day to find that they had many different brands and in different sizes. Ended up buying two (2) 325 boxes of Federal for about $38 OTD ($0.06 per round).
That's a pretty decent price these days.

It's still very slim pickins in these parts (south east Michigan). Usually Cabela's has it, but in small quantity boxes and for at least $0.08/round, so I pass. Walmart and Meijer I haven't seen it at for years, besides once a few months ago at Walmart they had a couple boxes of Remington .22 Thunderbolt (IIRC). The local Gander Mountain has a small amount of CCI in super tiny quantity boxes, for a ridiculous price.

lol, i think a local sporting goods store has that for $150.

My dad won a Glock 43 and he picked it up yesterday. We went out in the back yard and shot a box of ammo through it. That thing is NICE! I want one now!

Slim and light weight, but grip and recoil is very manageable on it.

I have a Bersa Thunder in .380, which I think is a bit bigger and hurts my hands when I shoot. No issue with that at all with the Glock 43. Could shoot that thing all day long!

Only downside in my opinion is the 6 rd capacity, but that's about the same as a snubnose revolver.

Had a bachelor party this weekend in NH and on Saturday afternoon all 10 of us went to a range for a few hours. My dad is a big hunter, so I have shot the standard 30-30, 30-06, 12 gauge, etc. This place easily had 500+ guns hanging on all 4 walls and in cases everywhere. 95% of them were available to rent. The instructor who was with us was an ex gun instructor for the marines - knew his stuff and was an awesome guy. At the end of the day we had rented/tried - 1911, .357 revolver, GP100, some variation of the AK47 (I believe he was calling it an 'impact' gun? as he said the standard AK is difficult to come by in the states), AR15, thompson machine gun and an Uzi. Holy shit - I am hooked. I want a handgun now.

Even though I had shot what my dad owns, it wasn't quite the same. He tried to get me into hunting, but I never did. I don't have the patience to sit in the woods for hours upon hours. This gun range thing I could get into though..... what a great time.

This thread is massive, so I got some reading to do....

pontifex... Why did you buy the Glock 43...? The size of it...?

I did notice that the standard clip wont support my hand (sorry large hands) but the clip with the little piece on it looks like it would work for me...? But I still wonder about the 6 rounds it holds...? Just a bit to few for me...

I cant speak for him, but I love my Glock 43. I can shoot it better than my shield 9mm, fits in my pocket better for pocket carry, and is fully rated for +p, something S&W would never bestow on the shield.

You can get floor plates for the magazines that give you the extra grip space, for that second magazine.

Mine makes a great companion for my Glock 19. I love how it shoots.

Where did you guys get the Glock 43 and how much did you pay for it?

The cheapest I can get is $570 (online after shipping and FFL fee). The local big boxes (Academy, Bass Pro, etc.) are all out currently.

yep, size and weight plus 9mm. i want to carry more. had been trying to carry my CZ P-01 in an aliengear holster. while it is fairly comfortable, its just too big and heavy to be really comfortable, so I don't carry it as much.

i shot one and it felt good especially at the size and weight.

6 rounds concerned me at 1st as well, but I have also carried a 38 special snubbie before and with the glock you can have extra mags and releoads are easier.

plus i'm sure they'll come out with extended mags. there's already at least 2 companies that make mag extensions to add 1 or 2 more rounds. they aren't cheap though, so i'll wait for extended mags i think.

I paid $480 + tax for mine at a local gun shop. you can get them online for like $459 but then you have to figure in shipping and transfer fees as well.

450 shipped online is the best I have found(see link above) + transfer

I can get one for around 400 in hand, but only because I have blue connections.

NICE!!!! :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Thank you, I am hoping that stamp shows up soon so I can get it dialed in before hunting season starts on Oct. 3. Would like to at least know how bad the POI shift is. This is the can that just got approved - http://www.silencershop.com/silencers/7-62mm-rifle/yhm-7-62-phantom-lta.html

In the meantime, this afternoon I got back in the NFA line, and ordered one of these - http://www.silencershop.com/silencers/rimfire/silencerco-warlock-ii.html

Between the form 3 to transfer it to my state and the form 4, hopefully I will see it in another 4-5 months.

Went and stamped my life away down at the police barracks yesterday afternoon. Pistol permit is (hopefully) on it's way! Now I just have a long ass wait.

I have been trying to read through this whole thread during some free time, but haven't gotten through it all yet. I got the itch to get my pistol permit after shooting a few during a buddies bachelor party a few weekends ago. Never had shot a pistol before that, but I'm hooked. We shot: 45 cal 1911, .357 revolver and a GP100. I do own a few shotguns and have shot plenty of rifles (dad is a big hunter) in my life.... but never a handgun. What a great time. Now that I'll have my permit, what would ATOT recommend as a first handgun? I honestly liked the 1911 the best, but my experience is very limited obviously. I've heard great things about glocks. My budget will probably be in the ~$500 range.

I took a Foundation Carbine class from MDFI this past Sunday. I've got several carbines (AR, AK, Tavor) and am mostly familiar with them in that I've shot each one at the range (except the Tavor, haven't shot it too much) since owning them several years and have done a little bit of practicing reloads, malfunction clearing, and transition to pistol at the range, but nothing beyond that. Well, besides many hours of YouTube video watching, lol.

The class was a lot of fun but it's definitely completely different to watch a YouTube video on malfunction clearing or transitions and think "ok, not too bad, that's easy" and then go do it with full kit under stress. It hurt to walk about 3/4 of the way through the class, my feet hurt so fucking bad. Shoulders were sore as fucking hell too. I was kinda "all-thumbs" with the Tavor at the beginning, but by the end of the day I think I had it down quite well. I specifically brought that gun because I had almost no experience with it, and I'm glad I did. I feel a lot more confident with it, and with using a carbine defensively in general, if I had to.

I'm definitely taking more training classes. The MDFI class was very conducive to learning and there was no macho bullshit or unfriendliness. I got some tips on my plate carrier setup as well. I might've looked like a n00b, at least at the start, but fuck it, I'm glad I went.

Everyone looks like a new when they first start with this stuff. I'm glad the class was good for you and it sounds like you got a lot out of them. I always recommend my friends take the classes at the club I belong to. I took most of them and have almost always come out of them learning something, even if that something was the correct term for an action. The only time I didn't get that was when I retook NRA's Basic pistol class to be moral support for my wife and buddy, both of which were scared to take the class but now after learning they're not scary are regular shooters.

Thank you. I have that bolt rifle really dialed in with that nightforce, so it is going to be interesting to see how much POI shift there is with the suppressor on there. I have to sight in that Vortex Viper PST on the AR from scratch though, that is brand new and I need it dialed in just in case I want to take that out for deer next weekend.

The local fudds always give those who hunt with AR's dirty looks, cant wait to see what kind of stroke they get when they see that one with a can attached.
