Kelvrick... Been thinking about it and the idea of a safe in the garage is my next move... Been talking with a few guys from the local gun shops and several of them have the same setup at their homes & garages too... A couple of them have heat in their garages too but they keep it very low so I wont worry about temps...

Just my .02 on this...

For your ammo? Or for your guns? Both?

If it is for the ammo, I love my ammo, but I just don't see myself spending the money on a safe to put them in. I'd rather put that money towards a better safe for the actual guns.

The safe I am referring to would be for the ammo... If you figure it a 1000 rounds of 5.56 would cost you about $325 and take up the space of about 1/2 of an AR15 or 2000 rounds would take the space of 2-AR15's... Roughly about the same or so for my AR10... I figure another 48 gun safe could hold approx. 20,000 plus rounds of ammo and a couple of AR's or pistols...?

BTW I have a 48 gun safe in my home already with several AR15's, AR10 and AR57... Oh and several 45's and a 44 mag... And a ton of ammo (damn safe is full)...

To me a separate ammo safe makes more sense than not. I have my doubts that a contained explosion would happen...it seems more likely that an ammo safe would start deforming enough to relieve pressure before it would "explode." If a house fire is bad enough that it starts cooking off the ammo in the safe (especially if rated for fire), you already have larger concerns anyway. But openly stored ammo will turn a fire much worse pretty quickly.

Have you considered just building a room with a steel frame and door for your guns and ammo?

My p226 legion has not shipped yet or looks close to shipping, but I did pick up a silencerco p226 1/2x28 threaded barrel for it, when it does arrive. Hopefully soon

One of the local FFL's that I use expanded the storage closet under the stairs, lined it with cinderblocks filled with rebar and cement, and attached a steel door as his safe.

Uh no...? For one thing I'm a bit lazy for that one and the cost would no doubt far exceed what a safe would cost me...? Plus the room cannot be moved...

But I might still consider it...? Hummm...?

Nope, not at all. Ammo in a fire sounds intimidating but doesn't contribute in any real way, and isn't even a serious threat to firefighters. Lots of tests here burning starts around 13 min in.

Background check for ammo purchase and microchip/ID for guns? Nope, ain't happening.

After comparing states' trends in firearms-related deaths against those states' decisions to adopt any of 25 gun-control measures, the researchers singled out three initiatives that were associated with robust declines in suicides, homicides and fatal accidental shootings.

The three measures linked to substantial drops in firearms-related deaths were: universal background checks for firearms sales, background checks on those buying ammunition, and a requirement that gun owners get their firearms microchipped or “fingerprinted” for identification purposes.

As usual, the magical "90%" lie. Say it enough times and they think we'll believe it.

Politics aside, none of these laws address the following:
1) Suicides, which account for the vast majority of gun deaths.
2) Crimes committed by individuals with no priors.
3) Crimes committed by felons, but who obtain a firearm via straw purchase (sending a girlfriend or younger sibling to buy a firearm for them).

Not to mention, we've been making progress since the 90s already:

Well that was fast. My dealer called, and he has two form 4's with stamps ready to complete the transfer on two of my suppressors I have in Jail. Now I just have to find time to make the six hour drive over there to get them..

What's the turn around time lately? Last time I ordered my 3 suppressors it took an entire 12 months to get approved.

137 days for my silencerco warlock II, and 129 days for my AAC Ti-Rant 45m. Times have been dropping like a rock lately, since they have added a ton of new examiners to get caught up before 41F goes into effect in June.

Hmmm, not bad. I may have to pick up a few that I've been eyeing.

Sounds like a good plan.

I have a Winchester Model 70 Sporter Varmint in .223 just to stay in the same caliber of a few others I had, I used to go up to my cousins farm in the past and we'd snipe them from range.

He had a nice 22-250 he used for it.

Which style mp5 stock you folks think looks better? I'll have about 9 months before I can attach it, but this section needs some discussion. Don't really like the fixed stock look on the model I am getting.

If I had to vote between those three, I'd vote for the second one. I think it fits the lines on the receiver better than the 1st one. The third one is classic, but I like how the 2nd one looks more. Otherwise, I'd say get an ar15 stock adapter and expand your options.

Here is a nice side by side of what I believe is similar to your three options.
