I was pretty skeptical, but that's not a bad looking little 45, really.

Won't be accurate at range I imagine, but still.

If you're not accurate at a range, you'll never be accurate anywhere. The only way to become accurate with any gun is to train, and fuck me if you're an idiot if you don't train at all and carry. I have a Beretta Nano 9mm that I carry with me everywhere. It's a totally different trigger than my full size guns. The basic concepts are the same, so it's not a compete change over. I still train with it a lot as it's prob going to be the gun that I'd have to use.

As for the Shield in 45. I'm really undecided. I love the Nano because it's the smallest footprint I could find in at least 9mm. For me it's all about comfort and concealment so the height of the Shield makes it still look larger than I'd want. I could be wrong though, and if it is a really small footprint I'll prob get one.. and then train and train and train until I'm on autopilot if something happened. Lord knows if I have to think I'm fucked.. and then I'll train some more.

Nice S&W, they can really make some sweet handguns, I love their revolvers, but don't own any.

A poor choice of words on my part, just thinking of how a compact pistol isn't an optimal weapon to protect yourself if the aggressor has anything other than a pistol.

Just trying to justify trying to carry a custom 6" barreled Glock 21 with a long slide and an extra magazine

Please explain this.. the bullets the same sooooooo how is a compact any different than a full size?

With a shorter barrel it's possible the bullet velocity doesn't get high enough to penetrate and/or expand like it needs to. But I think that problem is pretty rare.

I'm talking about larger bullets, different calibers, longer barrels etc. I was also thinking sub compact VS full size. Don't want to dig up ballistic data, and the differences aren't huge, but they're real. And things like increased sight radius affect accuracy as well. My CC is a Glock 39 in 45 GAP, BTW.

And of course, the most important thing is to be competent and as you mentioned, practice, no matter what you carry. Otherwise you're shooting say for instance a Hooter's, rather than your assailant....

the thing that concerns most people regarding full size vs compact would probably be capacity.

so say 8 rds vs 17 or something like that.

Yep, one of the nice things about Glocks is you can use a FS mag in most of the sub compacts, for instance a 19 round G17 mag in a G26, and use an adapter, or just carry a G17 mag as your backup.

Of course, most encounters are what, 3 shots?

I stated at range, not at a range.

A short barreled .45 is not going to be accurate very far out, I would think.

I trained a lot even before I was in the Marines

on the first sentence... oh.. oops.. reading is fundamental.

I don't know about 45.. I can tell you that I've shot within 4inch at 50 yards with my Nano. That took a lot of work to get it there, but I think it's all training dependent.

.223, have a .22 LR barrel set up for match shooting also, but haven't really used the pistol much in awhile.

They are fun to shoot. You can almost go all out Lee Van Cleef with those things if you really want to

My dad had one chambered in 44 mag, I lent to my uncle with the understanding I'd get it back, someday, he's flipping 90 and still hunts, I think he'll outlive me

LOL, I spazzed out and bought a couple of $110 nickel boron BCG's from PSA, they went in out and in stock this week, didn't pull the trigger before, when they showed up today I pulled the trigger.

It was a PITA too, my shopping cart is frozen, 2 calls to CS couldn't fix it, finally just checked out as a guest.

The 2nd CSR was an ass, kept suggesting the issue was on my end till he tried to do anything with my cart on his end. I made him apologize.

Will wait till the July 4th sale to hopefully pick up a pistol and carbine upper. Will likely give one or the other to son in law, he's a good kid, and hopefully he'll euthanize me when I'm old and senseless.

I missed your earlier post about him ordering the wrong gun.

My FFL is a very old friend, I find the stuff on the net, and just pay him the transfer fee, poor guy can't touch the prices of the volume dealers.

LOL, he's almost as excited to see the sh1t I buy as I am to get it.

PSA is having its annual Memorial Day sale and there are some good deals.

I purchased 1 lower plus 1 upper Magpul plus BCG and CH combo (all shippings are included). Total price with FFL fee is about $450. Not too shabby.

Yep, they have good sales, maybe by the 4th of July sale I can use my shopping cart again, LOL.

Edit, they finally fixed it, but the blemished stripped upper I wanted is OOS

How about an AR/PA10 kit minus a stripped lower for $599? That's a really good price for a truck gun AR10

I got me a new PSA build kit just now, but it was not on sale -

http://palmettostatearmory.com/20-hammer-forged-chrome-lined-mp-rifle-kit.html

I also added a mil-spec carry handle to the order. It should have shipped yesterday, but I also have a spikes Honey Badger lower I got on gunbroker on the way to use with that kit. Kind of excited to have a nice, CHF barreled M16 clone in the works.

Let us know how the 20" barrel works out, they say no real reason to go >18"

I have a Spikes HB lower as well on an upper from PSA, love Spikes sense of humor...

Only reason I am going 20" is to try and make a clone of an m16 with removable carry handle, which uses a 20" barrel. Looking forward to getting that kit and trying it out though.

I would eventually like to pick up a pirate and maybe a punisher lower from them, but the honey badger is my favorite one.
