If you're building an AR, get a good torque wrench to get the barrel nut on right. A punch set isn't a bad idea either.
Torque wrench
Punch set
Rubber and/or brass mallet
Magpul Armorer's Wrench (expensive but the cheap castle nut wrenches are shit and can bend)
Decent driver set would be helpful (to have the correct size bits for screws so you don't strip them)
That would do you pretty well I think, especially if you're just beginning.
My son in law swears the Magpul wrenches break, I've not seen it, but he's pretty sharp, I went with the Brownlee wrench. You don't have to have a torque wrench, but it's a very good idea. I use one and a a FAT torque screwdriver too.
Really? That's surprising. They looked pretty damn solid. I actually don't have any experience with them; they were recommended by sootch00 though and although he's kind of a puss he's pretty solid on not recommending junk.
I just cringe watching him build anything, he gets in a hurry and scratches the hell out of everything. Am a subscriber, but his builds are an example of how to not do a thing. Seems like a cool guy and all, but his reviews are just a bit too positive as well.
Haven't watched any of his build videos, but I, too, get a distinct whiff of paid-for-reviews from him. He doesn't do many negative reviews.

LOL, yeah he does tend to scratch things. I honestly don't care myself; I don't think I scratched my pistol but I wouldn't cared if I did. That gun is a tool to me, not a collector's item. But it is kinda funny.
He does have basically universally positive reviews but I really don't think he's paid by anyone. I mean, HPR (in case you didn't know, it's hyper clean) sends him some ammo and he works with Going Gear to give discounts cause he knows the owner, but I highly doubt there's someone putting money in his pocket to give good reviews. He's just an easy-going, positive person. But really, he's not gonna review junk or shit he don't like anyway, so stuff's gonna be positive regardless. I'd bet my next paycheck he's not a paid shill.
Some say sootch00 is a bit pretentious for what he says at the end of each of his video. I think he is alright but not as fun as hickok45. That old man is a hoot to watch.
Thumbs.... way up
LOL
I don't think his sign-off is pretentious at all... That's just his thing; he doesn't seem to be trying to appear more impressive or important by doing it, and seems like a humble guy honestly. But whatever.
Man I need to finish de-Cosmolining my M48. I finally got the bolt apart and have all the metal parts done, I just need to do the receiver and stock. I guess I'll need to use the brake cleaner I have for the receiver; I don't think it'll fit in my ultrasonic cleaner. :awe:
Look like the panic buying/selling/crazing pricing is down a bit.
PSA has the July 4th sale right now - an AR15 upper for $180, complete lower for $160, 5.56 ammo for $6/20 rounds, 9 mm ammo for $10/50 rounds. Prices do not include shipping.
RIP California. Time to order more lowers and ammo while I can.
Some stuff he posts is just blatantly wrong though. The K98K video for example is just a pimp-shined Mitchell's Mauser that he calls "matching".
That rifle alone needs to be revisited, but with a real example.
I'm sure he's made mistakes. But I don't feel I'm fed bullshit and lies when I watch his videos, and I find him slightly entertaining and he does share some good knowledge I think.
SOOTCH FTW
Got my new carry gun this weekend. Happy with the size, weight, and accuracy.
