I also built a m16 clone, but needed up swapping the carry handle for a true clone of my service rifle by adding the proper ACOG and KAC railed handguards. Definitely my favorite AR.

Haha yup, I remember when I first saw your pics of that rifle I thought "damn that is one sexy fucking rifle. I want one like that" lol. I'd love to build one with the actual old school triangular handguards but I don't know how rare/expensive those are. If I can't do the old triangular handguard, it'll be a M16A2 or M16A4 clone but I can't decide which yet.

I didn't see them at first but I do see a couple from Bud's. The one I'd be interested in is $75 and the review mentions a pre-drilled hole for a tension screw which I have no interest in; not sure if it requires a tension screw or if you can just ignore it though.

A little expensive, maybe pick up some other parts, and wait for the prices on lowers to drop...

Shortly after I posted that I remembered PSA as a place people have mentioned before and I saw that lower, though I thought the price was high for a "blemished" one. Not that I care too much about blemished (my AR is one from CMMG's "bargain bin" when they did that years back and I'm not sure I ever found the "blemish" on it), but still. I guess I should wait a week until Black Friday but DAMNIT I want it NAO. Also, thanks for the other link dude but I'm sticking with aluminum for the lower.

Don't buy a strip lower unless it is $50-$60. PSA, Anderson, and others were in that price range.

Do you guys know of anywhere that is a good place to buy from, or has a deal on, regular forged AR-15 lowers? I'm thinking about building a 20" M16 clone. I just like the looks of the old school, iron sights rifles. :awe:

I have a magnesium lower, and it's a PITA.

MAG Tactical (not sure anyone else has attempted a magnesium lower)? What issues do you have with it? I had one for a couple of years that I never had an issue with, and was my first build. I ended up selling it because I already have 4 others I barely shoot and my buddy wanted the cheapest one I have. The only issues I really saw on them online turned out to be ammo related, nothing to do with the lower itself... not saying there can't be issues, but I do find myself curious what they are. I can only say that I ran probably at least 3-4 thousand rounds without any issues at all.

I can be impulsive sometimes, so I ended up picking one up for $60 last night from Classic Firearms. I'm still going to check some Black Friday deals and pick up two more, if I can.

I also found some non-skyhigh priced triangular M16/AR-15 handguards, and the old school duckbill and 3-prong flash hiders too. So frickin sweet!

Man I'm so tempted to order the rest of the crap I want but the smart move would be to wait until at least Black Friday. I did order the handguards and flash hider and buttstock but those were all good prices already and I doubt I'm gonna find a better deal than there. But for a BCG, barrel, etc I guess I'll frickin wait just in case. Man this rifle is gonna be panty-droppin

$35 for each? I found a local guy who is in the military (to be retire soon) and he charged me $15/each transfer..ie. if I have 10 guns per transfer = still $15 out the door. I hope he will never move.

Grab a tool bag. http://www.sears.com/search=Craftsman 13 in. & 18 in. Tool Bag Combo. Nice and stealthy. I know what you mean about discrete range bags, they all seem to have firearm related logos that alarm the natives.

And those triangular handguards and fixed buttstock I ordered from Gunnys Surplus... EXCELLENT condition and they came super quick. Man that was a great buy (based on the prices of triangular handguards I've seen on other sites).

EDIT: Got a stripped upper from Weby Shops. Hadn't heard of the place before but I thought the price was decent ($49) and I want everything ordered and delivered before Christmas in case I take the stuff with me and put it together where I'll have access to more tools.

Dude that is sweet. I'd like a revolver too. Someday. I really like the S&W TRR8 model as well.

Something that is blowing my fucking mind. I'm having a quite difficult time finding a mil-spec AR-15 front sight assembly. The regular old thing that I can use with a detachable carry handle on a flat-top lower. Midway USA has one but you gotta drill and ream the holes, and same with the ones at Brownells... um, no, no thanks. Why would you have to drill and ream the thing when you already have to choose the right version for your barrel (0.625/0.750) anyway? I can't frickin believe it, even eBay is failing me. I just can't believe how much I have to search for such a standard (in my mind, anyway) thing. I know a lot of people use flip up sights now, but come the frick on!
