A piece broke out of the stock while I was wiping off cosmoline. Gonna try gluing it back on tomorrow but between all the stuff soaked into the stock and the heat from firing I'm not very confident it will hold.

i will have to see if i can modify them rather than sell them. would make things simpler.

and apparently maryland just passed some bullshit laws about firearms ownership too (i'm not sure if it went to the governor or whether it got stuck in the house/senate). mandatory fingerprinting for handguns, IIRC. that's horseshit. only time i ever needed to get fingerprinted is a goddamn national security background check, not exercising my goddamn 2nd amendment rights.

Was done by the Russians during refurb. Electro-penciling was a lot quicker than grinding+stamping.

Its taking about two months right now for the CMP. Might be slightly longer at this point. I know on other forums people who ordered 1/5-15 ish are just now getting theirs.

They do ship Fedex Air from what i have read and they do send order tracking (again from what ive read) so you once you got the tracking you could quickly change it to "pick up at warehouse" instead of delivery. Or use their change delivery address. But that is all assuming you can get right on it as i want to saw its next day air that they use. But that is a bit risky.

Got parents or good friends you could ship it to?

Ah, I see. Yeah I could have it shipped to my parents' house. I would just hate to wait too long and see them run out of one of the ones I'd like to order (Special Grade 30-.06 now, I just looked and now the Correct Grade are sold out and they weren't just a couple weeks ago. That's what I'm talking about). Hmmm, might just do that.

I think mine took like 30 days but that was a few years ago.

Wouldn't mind having a Garand or a Nagant either. Still prices are floating a bit too high still. I'm now more than willing to wait for as long as it takes for the prices to come back down to what they were before.

IDK about Garands, but I wouldn't hold your breath for Mosins to drop much, certainly not down to sub-$100 prices where they used to be. I paid $150 for mine from classic firearms, which seems pretty reasonable considering that it's newly imported, has the hex receiver, matching serial numbers and all accessories. They were also selling round receiver models for $120.

They only increase prices if they have customers willing to pay those prices. People stop paying those prices and they'll drop. I can promise you that. I'm doing my part. Either the price drops and I buy one, or they don't. If they don't and I don't get one for the price I want it is no big deal to me.

I suggest trying to practice by being "tested" before hand. There are plenty of ways to setup a scenario for a test where the outcome has you either getting something you want or failure means you don't get it or get something you don't want.

For example, maybe have your wife administer the test. If you do it properly you get a little action that night. If not, you don't get it for a week There are plenty of ways to practice for a test that puts something on the line to get that fight/flight response going which can make it difficult for some people to do what they want to do.

Seconded, he would've been ahead in my class too. Just make sure to be safe with your firearm, as usual, and I think you'll be good. Don't worry about it man.

Never heard about firing from the hip. I guess it's possible but it seems unlikely. If it happens just do your best, I'm sure you wouldn't be that bad since it sounds like you have a decent amount of trigger time.

I've personally be warned off the CMP - how are they? The Boyds stocks they use are pretty awful (from personal experience - I bought one after the stock on my 54 garand failed. I returned it, because the bolt hit the wood on the backstroke. I bought a stock from Dean (Dean's Guns) and not only did it function better, it's also gorgeous!

I don't know about where you live, but here in Texas, the shooting part of the class doesn't require anything like that at all.

You fire in total 50 shots. You shoot from a "ready" state. Which is your hands on the gun, the gun off the "bench" and not pointed at the target yet. Usually the gun is pointed down. The instructor will yell out "fire" and you will shoot when he/she tell you to shoot. And you will shoot the amount they tell you to shoot. Here the target is placed at 3 yards, then 7 yards, then 15 yards.

So here is how it works exactly. You get in front of your target. It is set to 3 yards out. The instructor will say load up 5 shots. Than when they yell "Fire" that you will fire 1 shot. You have 2 seconds after he says fire to shoot once. You'll start from the ready position of having the gun in both hands, but pointing slightly down with your finger off the trigger. After you fire 1 shot, you'll go back to the ready position and wait. The instructor will call out "Fire" again. You shoot 1 shot again and repeat that pattern of 1 shot when called up to 5 shots.

After the first 5 shots, you'll do "double" shots of shooting twice in 3 seconds. You'll load up 2 shots. They'll say fire, and you shoot both shots. Then you load up 2 again when they tell you. You do that 5 times for a total of 10 shots.

Then you load up 5 shots again like before. The difference is where at first you fired only 1 shot when called to fire, this time you'll fire all 5 after being told to fire.

That means you'll put 20 rounds into the target at 3 yards. You do a similar drill at 7 yards for another 20 shots. At 15 yards you'll shoot only 10 times total at the target.

It's really not that hard. The further the target is away, the more time you have to shoot at the target.



The instructors want you to pass the tests. Trust me. Many of those I've seen taking the tests when I head to the range are first time shooters lately. I haven't seen anyone not pass.

you think you'll be able to aim properly in every situation? what if the bad guy tackled you and is on top of you beating your face in? you're not going to have room to extend your arms and aim. you'll pull it from the holster, angle it up to the bad guy and fire.

I'm not sure i would expect that from a plain jane class to get your permit, but some kind of advanced concealed carry class though.

my garand came with a new stock, dunno who made it. but everything works just fine and it looks beautiful.

Their order backlog stands at around 17,000 orders. Right now it looks like they are processing and shipping orders received by the CMP at the end of January, so around 60 days to 70 days (plus or minus) from date of order receipt to date of shipment. There is a thread in the CMP M1 Garand forum that has current order timelines.
