For guys with AR15s, how many mags do you have? Any preference on manufacturers/models? Reloading mags at the range is definitely annoying.

Hard to go wrong with the big name ones like PMags or Troy Battlemags. They're dirt cheap too at about $10 - $15 each. I've got about 10 - 12 mags or so... three loaded with defense ammo (will be two more, if my 40-rounders are ever delivered), rest for rotating range use.

about 7 or 8 pmags, 10 brownells mags, and 2 c mags and 2 colt mags and 2 colt 20 rd mags.

If you don't have one, get a Lula autoloader, which makes the process infinitely easier and faster. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/79...r-and-unloader-ar-15-223-remington-556mm-nato

I see no reason to use anything but PMAGs. They seem in all respects to be more or less a perfect product. I like the window ones, but more for the cool factor than any practical reason.

Agreed, 1000%. Only I'd get it through Amazon, or someplace that's not going to rape you on shipping. Midway's prices are pretty decent, but unless you're filling a box up with stuff, they're going to buttrape you with shipping!

You stock up to sell when they eventually get banned from new manufacturing?

Nope I don't sell. I do have over 20 AR15s that use those magazines though. If I caught wind of another ban, I'll probably pick up another 100 magazines just to be safe.

That seems like a ton to me, but at least it's a safe place to put your money. If another assault weapons ban ever passes (which I doubt), your collection will be worth a pretty penny . . .

I have the urge to go buy the 10mm glock... must resist!

Question: Do you keep your mags loaded with bullets or empty when not in use?

If it makes you feel better i hated the glock 20 I much prefer the RIA 10mm 1911 myself.(and othe 1911 style 10mm guns. I want a 1066) Just to much plastic feel in the glock for me. Though if you are a glock guy i am sure the g20 would be a great gun (or g29). But im just not a glock guy.

pmags for me. I actually mostly use 10 rounders since i only shoot 5 or 10 round groups most of the time. But use 30 rounders every now and then for plinking in the woods. I have enough to be more than comfortable for both my 223/556 AR and my 300blk AR.

Reloading actually isnt a bad thing IMO. Gives the barrel time to cool down. Especially useful if you are shooting for groups as the temp of the barrel can effect accuracy. Trying to get it around the same temp is a good thing. Might not be a long time but the time to shoot 5 rounds, look at it through spotting scope, clear weapon, reload mag, and get setup lets the barrel cooldown a fair amount. But thats just me.

Ordered that a little while ago, along with some better hearing protection for my wife (Howard Leight Impact Sport). Looks like loading will be much quicker.

Those are the muffs i use. They are comfortable to me and work well. At the ranges in enclosures (ie a roof) i always double up with ear plugs and muffs though. I turn on the amplification when not shooting and just talking and turn it off when shooting. Out doors in the woods type shooting i will often just use the HL's with no plugs and am happy. In other words she should like them!

I honestly didnt find loading any faster with a lula over just loading normally. AR mags are easy enough to load just pushing the round down IMO. Unloading them though....love the lula for that lol. Both lula and non lula loading for me is just a matter of how fast you can grab the ammo.

Are there any reliable 20 rd magazines that are compatible with both ar and the tavor sar easily bought online? I've read the pmag m3 30 rd magazine is fine, but read horror stories for the 20 rd magazine having issues. The 30 rd sticks out too much for bench resting at the range.

I have a set of Howard Leight Impact Sports. They're pretty nice, though they do get hot and sweaty, and you HAVE to make sure they make a solid seal on your head. Otherwise you'll have an unpleasant surprise, especially when firing a small, 16.5" barreled .308. Ask me how I know.

Currently, my favorite ear protection are Skull Screws. They fit well, they're easy to use (you literally hold the stem and screw them into your hear), and they block a ton of noise. They're rated for 30dB like many other ear plugs, but I find them to be twice as quiet as the others, probably because they fit so well.

Best of all, you can get 120 pairs on Amazon for the price of the Howard Leight Impact Sports.

For hearing protection, I currently use those 33db "snore blocker" foam plugs you can find at walmart in addition to a pair of Proears pro mag gold NRR 33 electronic head set. Crank up the volume on both ears and can have a reasonable conversation at the range either with my wife or range officers with only about 1/8 second pulse interruptions with each gun shot during the conversation. Also not too difficult to integrate into home defense as it protects hearing while increasing your hearing ability. Expensive? Yes. Worth it? For me, yes. It overcomes almost all of the problems with the less expensive offerings.

Headsets arent expensive, those fucking electronic plugs cost 200 bucks.

The less expensive electronic headsets only provide ~25db nrr. Just like anything in life, if all the features are desired, it is going to cost $$$. If you don't care About certain features, price drops precipitously. Non electronic muffs with 30 db nrr are $15 which is great for situations where you don't need to hear commands.

QFT, some classes you may be instructed to fire at a certain target on the field or a certain place on that target. Also you may be told to fire once, or a burst.

I use cheap muffs. I am firing hot .45 ACP and less. My friends with .500's and the like I'd probably get better cans.

Hey guys,

I'm wondering if anyone has alot of experience or knowledge in the O/U shotgun world.

I've recently really enjoyed going to the local sporting clay/skeet range and I'm thinking about taking the plunge and getting a nice over/under from Browning, Beretta, Winchester, etc.

Any advice other then go out and hold/shoot?

Is there something specific to look for, or stay away from? Anything to focus on when shooting them? Common issues?

Thanks!

You're going to have to pay attention to your choke, depending on what kind of loads you're going to shoot.

put 100 rounds down range with my pistol today.

10yds was pretty good. I'd say 80+% on target (CoM), all hits on the paper.

15yds my hit rate was < 50% funny how much a different a mere 5 yards makes. i need more practice! (only 2nd time shooting my pistol)

went with a 2 friends and had a great time. good part is i have another 250rds that i can put down on another weekend

I have around 50 give or take. The lions share are PMAGs which is what I suggest. I also have quite a few Troy Battlemags and like them as well. I actually carry those as my reloads at work because they slide in and out of my carrier a little easier. I also have a few D&H USGI mags. While they obviously work very well they just aren't my cup of tea.

For those looking for a maglula check walmart. My local one carries the AR15 variant.
