niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice

Yeah... previous owner used shitty stamped metal ragged edged mags that chewed up and rounded out the plastic mag catch and you could pull the mags out with your fingers.

I asked Keltec to sell me a replacement figuring $5 at most and they just sent me a new one free no questions asked.

Good as new now through it was filthy.

I didn't complain though knowing what they were selling for at the time and my chances of finding another any time soon.

I have a shitload of KCI 33 rd mags that are decent but I also have factory Glock 33rd that have a much sharper and deeper catch shelf cut into the polymer that definitely has a much more positive SNAP when the catch grabs.

If it ever fails again (shouldn't using proper mags) Ill just make a billet catch and be done with it.

Only other problem is the plastic spacer that keeps the catch spring under compression and keeps the catch tight can wear. Ill solve that with a longer stronger spring should that problem ever arise.

Keltec has cool stuff but they are what they are, cheap plastic range toys.

bought a speedloader tonight. thank you old coworkers for getting me a giftcard! finally put it to use.

They sure are a hand/finger saver. Especially with new mags or if you plan on spending a little bit of extra time at the range of which I am quite guilty of doing when I blow through lots of ammo lately.

Finally built my new upper so figured id show off my AR's

300BLK
16" AR Stoner barrel
Cheap blemished upper
SAA lower
PSA Magpul STR MOE LPK
Timney 3.5lb single stage trigger
Troy Alpha Rail 13"
Vortex Viper HS 2.5-10 on a leupold 1 piece mount

Bottom Rifle 223 Wylde
18" White Oaks Armory barrel
generic blemish upper and generic upper parts
Troy VTAC Alpha rail (11") (want to get a 15" one...eventually)
SAA lower
PSA Magpul MOE CTR LPK
SWFA 12x fixed scope on a leupold 1 piece mount

Upper only (i dunno what i do with this....ive shot many twice and it just is kinda...there lol)
PSA 16" basic upper. Came with standard hand guards but i replaced them with the magpul
1-4x Primary Arms scope on a primary arms mount.

The 223 wylde upper is going to more be used on the 300blk's lower till i get a better trigger for the other lower.

How do you like the SAA lower...? Have one coming for a 300BLK that is very similar to your build...:awe:

BTW they have a great sale going right now too...

Honestly they are fine for lower receivers. With that said no i wont support them and wish you wouldnt have given them their money. I bought mine preSandy Hook and they were a good company at that point. However their actions after Sandy Hook were deplorable and they constantly LIED to their customers. I will never give them another cent even if it means paying 20-30 more for a lower receiver. Same goes for Aero Percision (who actually makes SAA's stuff FYI). You lie to me and i can take my money elsewhere.

But the lowers are nice and work well. nice tight fit on everything. I had zero gap from lower to upper on any upper/lower combo i have. One of mine has a really tight rear take down pin slot but working the take down pin 20 times or so got it nice.

Which actually has me wondering. I know tons of people who said they wont shop with company X or Y or Z for price gouging or whatever during "the panic". How many people have actually stuck to that or have people forgotten already. I know i havent shopped at any place that jacked their prices up and i wont. WHich is a bummer since SAA is somewhat close to me and so much easier to hand pick a blemish than order online when i can find them lol

I knew about the crap that went on with them but ran across a link one day to their blemish lower with Magpul furniture and for the price could not resist then went to buy and the damn thing popped up "out of stock"...? Kinda made me bound and determined to get one so just did the $169.95 complete and it will be here tomorrow... I already had all the FDE Magpul furniture from another AR15 that I did a trade for... Get this... I put my S&W 4006 with 4 mags and box of JHP's for sale or trade and this guy text me to trade a Model 1 Sales upper (Chrome lined A3 flat top) but does have a Frontier poly lower which is not really all that bad just cheap but light... So we meet in Houston at Carters Country and we do the deal and it has FDE Magpul and he tosses in an alum quadrail with lower hand angled hand guard and a tiny red laser with mount all for my Smith 40 cal & stuff... Now granted my 40 cal was super clean and only had like 10-15 rounds through it but it was the only 40 cal I had so really it was an odd ball in the group... Little AR15 shoots like a dream and is way lighter than my Bushmaster...

BTW got a nice little add-on-the-end for the 300BLK and some SLOW ammo that am dying to try out...:sneaky:

If you weent in WA or frequent the WA gun forums you only know the half about SAA. Having their employees, in public, tell lie after lie while people post proof of their lies just put a sour taste in my mouth. Nothing against the employees mind you but the company has issues.

Sounds like you got the good end of that deal. nice condition 4006 seem to sell for ~400. So a Complete ar (even if poly) for 500 ish isnt bad at all Especially if its all magpul stuff.

And i have the slow ammo waiting for my can. Got it pretty well dialed in to 1050fps with 208gr Hornady match bullets

Sweet...!

Wanting to ask your opinion about the Ruger SR556E (note the E on the end not the high $$$ ones)... Shot my wad on a SR762 that is coming on Monday and cant wait but the idea of an AR15 with gas piston sounds like it might fill a spot in the safe but have to put more change in the jar :\...?

No personal experience with the Ruger AR's. Heard great things about them though. Gas vs DI is personal preference IMO. Doesnt really add any major benefit. But they seem to have a bit of popularity. The SR762 looks nice thats for sure!

Question for those that build ARs. So how hard is it to build an AR? Do you need any specialized tool? I like the idea but not sure I am up to the task or not.

From 1 to 10 (1 is easiest), what would you say? (let say 1 is to put two legos together and 5 is to build a desktop computer). TIA.

Well my CMP ammo came yesterday, so I have 1000 rounds of 30-06 and nothing to shoot it out of.

About a 3-4. Getting the bolt catch rollpin in is the.. worst.. part (dread whenever I build one because of this single piece) of the entire exercise.

I should probably have invested in a proper rollpin punch/holder.

Tools needed...depends if you want to build a complete gun or just a lower. For just a lower all you need is vice grips technically. But roll pin punches help out. Then you need the armors wrench to be able to attach the buffer tube. For an upper you need the same tools and also a upper vice block.

One a scale of 1-10 I would give it a 5. only cause the roll pins can be a bit of a pain in the butt if you have done them before. if you are good with them then its like a 2. Uppers the only real tricky part is getting the barrel nut in position to allow the gas tube to go in straight

i never had a problem with the bolt catch roll pin on any lower ive build. now the front take down dent....that silly thing has flown accross the room a few times

O after the first lower i learned to use a cardboard box lol. Took my a good 10 minutes ot find that damn dent the first time.

Hehe, sounds like we've all had fun building AR lowers. But to the posters asking about difficulty, I'd agree and say it's pretty easy to build AR lowers and uppers - if you have the correct tools.

Necessary for lower:
Roll pin punches
Brass hammer
Electrical tape (to protect bolt catch area when assembling)
Castle nut wrench (when attaching stock)
Screwdriver (for pistol grip bolt)
Credit card (for holding in the damn front detent pin while you slide in the front pin)
Cardboard box/ziploc bag (to hold the lower while you attempt to install the detents)

Additional tools necessary for upper:
Bench vise
Upper receiver block (to hold it in a bench vise)
Barrel nut wrench(es) depending on if you are assembling a non free float delta-ring based build or using a free-floating handguard (which generally require proprietary barrel nuts)
Flash hider wrench (this may come with your barrel nut wrench if it is a multi-function tool or the MIL STD armorer's part)
High temp moly grease (NO GRAPHITE) for upper receiver threads - MIL STD is Aeroshell 33 MS
Properly headspaced bolt, or headspacing gauges to do it yourself

Recommended, but not necessary:
Torque wrench to properly torque barrel nut

Finally got around to triyng out the new Colt 6920 I got a few weeks ago. The chrome lined barrel shoots better than I thought it would. Too bad I pulled one shot in that group.

I have no idea what ANY of that shit is.

Maybe I should skip the AR's entirely. A mini-14 might be better.

In fairness, you need those tools to build from unassembled parts. You don't need them to buy a complete rifle.

Its not like you can assemble a mini-14 like you can an AR so its not really a fair comparison.

A mini-14 won't give you the same kind of options you can get on an AR, and if you really don't want to deal with assembling little pieces, you can go straight to buying a complete lower and just slapping whatever kind of upper you want on top of it without any tools required. I went the assembly route just for the experience of learning about where all the little parts go.
