Get it even if you like the stock trigger

My dad has the M&P 45 and it was ok trigger wise. Did the Apex trigger and wow that made a world of difference. its much better all around now

Hmm...looks pretty cut and dry.

Now to find a Pro at a price I can live with

OK

I've narrowed it down to the M&P Pro or a Glock 17.

Opinions?

Thought you wanted a metal gun lol! I vote none of the two! The m&p pro looks neat, but once held in hand, I didn't like the feel at all. The grip didnt feel comfortable for my middle finger. This problem doesnt exist for the shield. The m&p and pro It seemed to be too bulbous in that area. Glock is OK, but already have a g19... You already know my vote.

Sigh....

I mean...I can always resell a Glock for damn near full price. I really wish the new Sig was out.

That's how I mounted my small pistol safe. Except I cut out a piece of wood that's the size of my safe so no one could easily use a pry bar to just try to pull it out of my wall. Plus my closet isn't that big (small walk in) so they'd have a hell of a time trying to work in there. But my biggest concern really is the rug rats

Ah, my closet is 16'x16' so plenty of space. I installed the two cabinets on an exterior facing wall so that they cannot be defeated by punching through the other side of the wall. They are protected on the sides because my wardrobe that is built in to my closet surrounds the cabinets on both sides and top. The fastest way to defeat the cabinets is with a power saw and cut through the front. I use a small fort Knox safe for my loaded home defense handguns. Most inexpensive safes are pretty easy to cut through with a saw since they only have thin guage sheet steel wrapped fire resistant doors. So, i didnt really see much benefit in dealing with entry level rifle safes. The good safes, like fort Knox cost a pretty penny and weigh so much that they belong in the garage or basement (too far away from my bedroom for my taste). Hauling them upstairs would be a nightmare plus they might not fit into the std closet doorway...

Kids are smart, they can defeat most of the economic choices if they really want to with basic tools. Hopefully they are receptive to learning safety and respect of the firearms.

Pfft, a CZ or comparable clone is not fancy enough for him.

...get a Sphinx. The connoisseur's CZ-75.

My problem is I love Glocks and cheap guns. I'm trying to broaden my horizons and see what else is out there. Yet I still carry my 19 every day.
I am leaning towards a 17 with a decent light for home defense. The more I look, the more I find higher end stuff isn't always better if you want it for a purpose.

Can you handle the glock, m&p pro, and ppq side by side? The Sig is not out yet because they are waiting for you to save up the appropriate funds ! You know it ain't gonna come cheap :-D

I saw a mastership Sig p226 x-6 scandic in person. Looked quite flashy, too bad it cost 3200$ :'( trigger was pretty sweet :-D i wouldn't mind seeing the x-5 short

I can't find the Pro local. But it's the same frame as the regular...I think. I hate going to my LGS for guns. They are always stupid busy and they have snot nosed douche bags manning the counter.

My feeling with Glocks is simply that, with a few mild exceptions, if you've owned one, you've owned them all. I'll mail you a strip of self-adhesive lead weights in a baggy labeled 'Glock conversion kit.' ;P

I just can't see a 17 shooting any differently than a 19. Little more sight radius, little more weight, little more grip. But it's all...pretty 'little.'

AFAIK those Sphinx pistols start at like two grand. So I was being a little facetious there. But I don't see you buying many 'cheap' guns. You dropped a grand on a Sig recently...a Glock does seem cheap in comparison, but paying 500+ for a Glock or an M&P doesn't exactly scream 'bargain' to me.

Have you tried a CZ derivative at all? I dunno why you'd prefer a striker fire for a nightstand gun...if you're willing to go DA/SA, go rent a generic steel CZ. I really think you may be surprised how much you like it.

In the $500 range, I'd vote Baby Eagle II over the basic CZ-75B, though. Hell, you might be surprised to find that even the .45ACP version kicks less than your Glock. On account of weighing like three freakin' pounds. :awe:

Home defense handgun = light weight be damned.

I want heavy!

But I'm just not confident in myself with hammer fired guns. With a Glock, I know what to expect and I know I can hit what I aim for. I'm not even half as confident with the Sig.

And the $1k I dropped was a present to myself for getting hired. I got a nice raise and a nice bonus, I figured I had earned something shiny.

Sorry for being a broken record...but...heavy? Doublestack 9mm? Easily-mastered trigger?

Jericho 941/Baby Eagle. All day. Have you shot any SA recently other than the Sig? The 226 family generally has very nice double action and a smooth single. But I can understand exactly how it might be a little hard to feel out- the it's a low effort pull, but what I notice is that the takeup kind of blends with the break. Lack of sudden changes in required effort = good, but the bang can be a little surprising.

A good CZ-style trigger has some amount of smooth takeup, that is very obviously 'takeup' and not actually pressure from the hammer/sear, followed by a short, crisp break. The CZ-75 design is very much to DA/SA 9mm's what the 1911 is SA .45's. Just a damn good execution, and a great platform for tweaking to your liking.

Also, it's hard to understand exactly how heavy the steel ones generally are until you've handled one. Polymer CZ compact = probably heavier than a G17. Alloy frame = definitely heavier. Steel full-size = holy shit this gun is made from depleted uranium.

If you want to be cheap AND get something different that you might like... :hmm:

1) I know, I hate the loaded chamber indicator and the ambi controls. It's okay to me because
2) Those have been popping up for like $300 lately. It is essentially a CZ P01 ('compact' variant, but they aren't exactly small...kinda like a P229 is to a P226) but with a steel frame instead of alloy. And it has decent adjustable sights.

I think you'd enjoy it. And if you bought one and by chance DIDN'T like it...hey, fuck you, it was $300, whaddaya expect?

My early generation M&P 9 is one of the less accurate ones, and the stock trigger was awful in part 1) the design of the trigger with the fold in the middle instead of the Glock style with the pivoting blade, 2) the original sear cam design was gritty and rough along with the firing pin safety detent wasn't very round and had a noticeable second "hump" in the trigger pull when the trigger bar depressed it.

Otherwise, good ergonomics, changeable backstraps, slightly heavier than a Glock so it's hard to limp wrist or Glock wrist it. I find the pro looks idiotic with the extended slide but that's just me.

Get the Apex replacement polymer trigger imo if you can't stand the stock trigger.

I find it bizarre that anyone would worry much about the aesthetics of a polymer pistol. I have never seen a truly pretty polymer gun, nor does that bother me one iota. I also don't think this looks "idiotic."

Polymer pistols tradition look...I dunno...like a 'package.' They were made to look one way.

The big slide looks goofy because it's like an M&P is morphing into a Hi-Power.

If you want a big poly gun, you can go one of two directions: big, and home. I choose big.

So, while I'm in CZ/Tanfoglio/clones/cloned clones fanboy mode...

I never really fully finished Project: Polish like a Motherfucker. It has kind of a beat-up nickel look rather than polished aluminum. When the aluminum is fully polished, it's like a chrome bumper.

But the grips are feeling really good and I've been cycling it and getting everything nice and worked in, and man it is feeling great. Anyone that has a CZ or clone, a tweaked mainspring is totally work it. I have a feeling I'm edging 'light strike' territory with my cut one, but there are usually lower than stock pressure springs available that will ignite 100% of [non-dud] primers.

Gonna go shoot tomorrow. Will report back with what kind accuracy I can manage with new tweakings. The gun still needs new sites. Gonna have to do some fabbing for that.
