Open to other calibers. I would put a lot of lead downrange with it in the beginning so ammo cost will be a slight concern. May also start carrying and would like to teach the daughter to shoot as well.

Looking at this one as well

You need to head to a local gun store and fondle a few guns to get a feel for what you like. Even better if you have a range nearby that rents guns you can actually shoot. For me, a glock feels miserable in my hands, but a S&W M&P feels like it was made for my hands. Everyone is different. No sense in buying something you're going to hate shooting.

This thread alone probably has 50 pages dedicated to caliber wars, but for an all-purpose, range/home defense round, it's difficult to go wrong with 9mm. Of course, finding it in stock anywhere is a different matter.

9mm is still about the cheapest ammo out there so that would probably be a better bet...and everything I've heard about the Sigma series is pretty much junk, but that's all second hand info...and in general a carry gun isn't going to be the best thing to learn on as they tend to be small so you'll end up with more recoil and the smaller sight radius makes accuracy more challenging, something mid to full size might be better to start with

Awesome info. Time to visit a range again. Been at least 10 years since I was last on one Thanks guys. I'll start looking at full size and see about a carry pistol a little down the road.

Anybody else seeing Bud's gun shop ads in this thread now? Talk about targeted advertising :awe:

No gun or ammo ads here. Just a bunch of Gskil and Intel servers ads on top. I am at work now so no "unauthorized software".

Yeah yeah...adblock yada yada yada

Here's a crappy pic of some of the handloads I inherited along with a WWB factory load...the one on the left is particularly nice

Unless the loader was just totally incompetent they are probably just different sizes & types of bullet. If the one on the left was a "full size" bullet (115gr+) seated waaaay too deep I think you would see a more noticeable bulging of the case (this is 9mm right?). It's probably some special cast very light (< 100 gr) bullet.

Still, I wouldn't shoot them.

Yes 9mm...but I don't think you would ever see any bulging, though if you look closely at the one on the left you can see the top of the case tapering, it's a lot more evident in person and many of them are like that...I'm going with theory number one, a totally incompetent loader

I've a Colt King Cobra and a Ruger Blackhawk both in .357 Magnum to deter any pests in the homestead.

Many more but those the two I keep available more or less.

9MM is cheaper ammo I'm sure, but I haven't been to a range or plinking in quite awhile.

9mm is a tapered case, sometimes it will show a bit of bulging even seated to a proper COL.

Cannot be beat for the money. The metal Canik (Tristar is just an importer) pistols can be had online for as low as $300 sometimes. Some are steel and some are alloy. All are fucking awesome guns for the price.

There is so much 'fucking scary' there...the fact that that dude thinks it's normal for brass to look like that...but not only that, he wants to reuse it in his fully automatic weapon...jesus christ, someone take that dude's guns. He sure as SHIT should not be reloading...this is why 'no reload' policies exist at good ranges. I don't want that dipshit anywhere near me.
