I did check out some 9mm Walthers and they were nice in my hands but expensive, all of them were over $600 and more plus sale tax.

The PPQ probably has the best "hand feel" of any of my firearms; and it's great to shoot. Absolutely love that gun.

Here's a question to the guys with some knowledge of mil-surp rifles: Where do you recommend I go if I'm interested in picking up a Karabiner 98k? I did a search on Gun Broker and didn't see a single one. There's Yugo Mausers available and I've considered just getting one of those, but I'd really like an actual K98k.

Plenty of K98Ks around, just get a run of the mill Russian Capture and call it a day.

Don't forget to order ammo as well since it's not as easy to find commercial type ammo locally like it is for Mosins and AKs.

^Don't like AK quality in the $500 range? why not?

All ready for the range this weekend:

For around $500, I will have to get AKs from Century or ODI or some other of-brand companies. I think I will pick PSA over them quality speaking. I do hear good things from Arsenal but I will not pay over $1K for an AK.

What kind of AK is that in your picture? Brand and price if you don't mind telling.

Nothing wrong with Century AKs, it just all depends on what your expectations are. I had a Century underfolder that worked absolutely fine and was made over here in the States vs one of the Romanian WASRs. An AK is an AK, there isn't much of a difference between the bunch besides fit/finish and name. If the AK was made properly it should work.

I refuse to drink the Koolaid on the whole Arsenal thing. Yes, they're imported (Bulgaria) and then worked on over here, but again they're just an AK. The only difference between them and 99% of all the other AKs? Non-US receiver and a Hammer-Forged barrel. Is that worth the price? Some people think so, but I can't justify it. I paid around the same price for an Atlantic Arsenal Polish Sidefolder and I'm more than happy. It was a limited run build, is absolutely beautiful, and I don't believe the are going to make any more.

The AK in my picture started off as a AK74 Bulgarian kit that I purchased with a nitrided 5.45 barrel and a Childer's custom receiver. I put it together myself and have had no issues with it in the (low) number of rounds I've put through it. The kit was around $450 I believe and the receiver was around $150 or so.

Well that gives me a little hope. I think I've seen them at a couple of guns shows years ago but I haven't in awhile. Do you recommend gun shows then?

Yeah, just be careful. The K98K is one of the more popular rifles to fake in to an all matching rifle, they're worth a lot more when they match vs when they don't.

All the gun shows I've been to usually has just 1 guy with his overpriced K98K collection, I've bought all of my K98s through forums/gunbroker.

My All matching (transposed bolt) non-import mark 1944 K98K.

No problem. Like I said I'd stick to Yugo Captures or Russian Captures if you're looking for a real German K98. They run anywhere from 3-500+ depending on the shape they're and their year/features.

Be sure to keep an eye out if the swastikas/proofs are peened or censored if it's important to you. Also keep in mind the Captures will never be matching as they were broken down into parts and put into piles, then rebuilt...the Russians took the time to electro-pencil the bolts and stamp the stock on the left side buttstock (germans didn't do this) in order to match the components to the original rifle serial.

Let me know if you have any other questions, I LOVE WWII eastern front weapons.

I finally got the RMR for my FNX. Now to go get it zeroed...

Looking good. Should be fun to shoot, too.

I went to a local gun show yesterday, was underwhelmed. Did pick up 1000 rounds of CCI MiniMag 22LR pretty cheap which will keep my plinkers happy.

I am looking forward to sighting it in, but I really cannot wait for the stamp to come back for the AAC Ti-rant 45M suppressor that will be going with it.

I still need to get out and re-zero both of my 10/22s. I had removed the barrel on one to get it threaded for another suppressor, and I added a tactical solutions barrel and a magpul hunter stock on the other one, along with new optics.

Wake up people, almost 1 week with no post?

Here is a good one. AK74 in action and in slow mo = https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCgmfbAbP-Q

FN = https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWoWnp8RgQo
That AK one is very cool. I'll have to watch it when I get home so I have sound. I didn't realize the piston hit the gas block (sometimes). Was that just because he had the gas tube off probably? Maybe it's explained in the video.

Probably takin a ride to the nearest Cabela's this weekend sometime with my brother. Definitely ain't gonna be Friday cause it'll be a frickin madhouse in there. We were in Cabela's a few years ago on a Black Friday... no thanks. I've been lookin/thinkin about picking up a 1911 (FINALLY!), so there's a chance I'll come home this weekend with one. So far I think my choice is a Remington R1 Enhanced (I've seen one w/ a threaded barrel there before; that'd be my choice for whenever I get my mitts on a suppressor):

That poor rear trunnion :/.

Yeah, the pistons on AKs are not tightened down fully (and shouldn't be) so they have a little play/slack in them for reliability purposes. They rely on the gas tube guiding them back to the gas block.

Either that gun needs a lot of serious work, a new barrel, or just better ammo. Looks to be over-gassed and possibly may have a worn out barrel since the bullets are wobbling/flipped end over end after they've exited the muzzle.

Wanted to like the FNXs but the serated grips were a dealbreaker for me, and for a firearm that's supposed to be a 'clone' of the Sig Sauer P2XX series it felt nothing like one or even a Sig SP2022.

Yeah, FN pistols are fairly aggressively stippled. So are the Walter's and HK's I have, but it's more of a patterned stippling that feels a bit less "rough" than does the FN.
