Would a $299 AR-15 in .223 Wylde (shoots 5.56 and .223) temp your budget? I know Bear Creek Arsenal has had some issues before, but their ARs are getting decent reviews these days.

Damn, I wish I wasn't so broke ATM. When I was a little kid I would study the toy pages of the Sears catalog composing my Christmas list. I spend way too much time on the gun/knife deal sites doing the same thing today.
That's a good price though I think my wife would kill me. Good to go with AR pattern right now (3 of them).

I have a couple things on my list, RDB I think is next.

One of the toys on the shelf with some of the other toys. Next year will be joined by an RDB or maybe a CZ Scorpion or something.

Spooon, nice gun. Detail specs?

A picture of your man cave would be nice. Look like you have some nice looking toys in there.

LOL, just Lego stuff, other random toys, and a bunch of camera gear. The gun stuff is sort of crammed into a closet (ammo, tools, folding bench, etc.)

.300 blackout pistol with an Aero upper and a PSA lower. I got a stripped lower so I could put it the stuff I wanted in there, though aside from a generic lower parts kit nothing special except the trigger. Went with the Geissele single stage trigger; it is many times better than the PSA polished enhanced. My other AR has a 2 stage Geissele which is excellent; my wife's has a HiperFire which feel pretty sloppy compared to the Geissele and also pretty similar in some ways to the PSA polished enhanced. The HiperFire was a disappointment all around; it's a single stage trigger that just feels like a mushy 2 stage.

Getting the pistol to cycle reliably was a chore but now it's a lot of fun to shoot. Much easier to haul to the range than the AR rifle.

How short is that barrel? I was thinking about 7.5" barrel upper AR15 (5.56/.223 not 300) from PSA to go with my pistol lower from PSA but some said the blast from the short barrel would be too much/too bright (like a fireball) and the velocity of the bullets would suffer a lot and other issues/problems. So I am a bit hesitate and was wondering if I would go for 8.5" or 10.5".

It's 8. The one I built for my wife is 10.5" if I recall correctly in 5.56. You can google, there are charts that give you a sense of muzzle velocity and what not. Honestly, most of the .300 blackout build (and the 5.56) was about fun and coolness. Though I wouldn't want to get shot by anything regardless of muzzle velocity.

Oh, and I would do an Aero upper rather than PSA. The one I built for my wife is PSA. It just feels cheap compared to the Aero.

Definitely a sick lookin piece!

I put together a 300 BLK pistol myself, last year I guess it was. 8" barrel too, IIRC. Thankfully it worked right away and I don't think it has given me a single malfunction. I have noticed that shooting lighter weight bullets, like 125-147 grain ones, causes noticeably more recoil than the heavy 220 grain bullets. Sounds kinda weird I guess but I swear that's what I noticed. I'll have to pay closer attention next time I shoot it, and have light and heavy bullets so I can confirm. I think the muzzle device is the PWS FSC30 one (if I had to do it again I'd just get a flash suppressor; these comps are loud as shit and annoying to anyone on the left/right of you).

The heavier 220g and similar rounds in your blackout are subsonic and really geared towards using them with a suppressor. If you don’t have a can I would probably just stick with the lighter supers since they are going to cost you less. I reload both subs and supers for my 300blk pistol and rifle, the match bullets on most of those heavy loads is where all the money is.

I know its not the hunting thread, but my ruger no. 1 in .300 win mag did the job on this nice 6x6 last thursday.

I used a handload, which was a 200g Barnes long range X bullet, with 75 grains of H1000 powder and a winchester large rifle magnum primer. Turns out I did not need anything long range for this bull, it was about a 20 yard shot on a closed road.

The quarters and the carcass hanging at the meat processor was 542lbs, so that should do well to top off the chest freezer.

I have a Scorpion and while its fun to shoot I have to let you know its no good for home defense. I learned that in an advanced rifleman course this past month. Even the long barrel version is a poor performer during a training exercise. Also, the M1 carbine is no good. too many failures in a standard 400 round training program.

I've never owned a mini 14 but most of the tacticool guys on the range said its not great either.

Yeah, I'm not really worried about home defense. Under no delusions that I'm going to get into some kind of shootout or something at the house and have plenty of the right tools for that if it ever happened. Fun to shoot is all the criteria necessary.

Then you absolutely, positively, unequivocally, need a fucking Scorpion.

I just wish those lowers didn't replace the regular fire selector markings (I'll admit to being a full-on "libturd" in most areas. ). PSA does a lot of fun ones, like space force and they had a gremlins one; I just prefer the standard fire selector markings.

You shooting subs? Or both? What buffer weight?

One of the kids in front of the tree, hoping it'll have another sibling soon.

I agree, i would much prefer that the snowflake Lower had “fully semi automatic” as an option instead. I also have their honey badger lower for my m16a4 clone, which is probably my favorite one. I really would like to get the Mattis lower from psa also, but I would have to figure out what I would want to build out of it.

I shoot mostly subs with my YHM suppressor out of that pistol, both factory and handloads. I have a 16” 300blk rifle also that I shoot supers through. On the pistol I am using a standard carbine weight JP silent capture spring system, to make it even quieter to shoot when running the suppressor.

With regards to that rifle training course: I think I'm gonna buy something popular and try it again in the spring.

Does anybody here have a good beginners guide to AR's? I'll buy something off Amazon if you're sure its got quality up to date information.

All I know is forged receivers are better than stamped.

Not a book, but a wealth of information: https://www.ar15.com/forums/ar-15/

I found the carbine course a rehash of handgun training. Highpower shooting is whole different animal.

Looks like I will have to sell some pistols on consignment and use the proceeds to buy a Ruger 556.

If I had a bottomless pit of money I'd go for the Beretta ARX-100 or CZ Bren 805.

They look kinda neato.
