I've got a 100 year-old rifle. Shoots dead on.

I have a second generation Colt Single Action Army that is almost 60 years old and it is probably the best shooting Colt SAA that I own. I have several shooters including a late model 7 1/2” SAA also blue with case hardening so not shooting this one is fine with me. I would love to pick up a nice first gen SAA at some point but it has to be original and in good condition.

Darn you Spooon, stop tempt me with those sexy short barrel guns!!!!! <licking lips at them guns>

I hear quality guns and ammo are harder to find now.
Get one while you can.

Parts, while not scarce exactly, go out of stock pretty quickly. Kind of a PITA if you're in the middle of a build.

What are people's thoughts on SAO, specifically for carrying? I shoot 1911s mostly for fun since I love the feel, but they're low capacity and heavy.

A while back I shot a Sig SAO legion. I was shooting through the same hole over and over, it was amazing. I tried a DA/SA version but even in SA mode it was not the same.

For the record I don't actually carry or have a permit and if I did, it'd more likely be in a situation where having a small compact wasn't important.

Or, what striker-style handguns have the best triggers? I own a S&W M&P 9mm with a trigger kit and it's still meh. I haven't been a fan of Glocks lately either. I shot the p320 once so I need to give that a few more tries.

Long story short, the best gun for you in a self defense situation is the one you have with you. Really helpful if you can make the hit in the time allowed.

As far as triggers, the best I have seen is have been 1911"s, specifically those that have had a trigger job from a good gunsmith. They are available in compact versions and various calibers, but I don't have a lot of experience with them.

Personally, in times of elevated risk, it's a 1911 on the hip with a couple extra mags. Otherwise it is just a DAO pocket 380. Works for me.

Good luck, stay safe.

I have a Springfield Armory TRP 1911 and out of the box it is the tightest 1911 with the best trigger of any handgun I’ve ever shot by far. This model is one step below the FBI model. I would recommend the TRP over any other 1911 in its price range. It is a full size 1911 though.

I have a SIG P220 and I really have to pay attention to how I am squeezing the trigger to get decent groups with that gun, the trigger on the P220 is shit compared to the 1911.

Wow that is a pretty sick piece. Nice!

Thanks man. I may get a display case to hang in my office to display it in. I have two other Colt SAAs in a display case hanging in my office but this one deserves its own I think. I was looking at another one that was also engraved, same barrel length, same finish, same caliber but someone else snapped it up for the buy it now price of $4995, which is more than I paid for this gun. If I could get another one like it I would send them both to a guy I know who makes very nice custom grips. I’d love to have ivory grips made but you can’t get them anymore. Ivory looks better on nickel plated guns anyway.

One of the cool features about this gun is that it is a black powder frame. In Colt lore that just means that the frame is identical to the very early first generation Single Action Army’s. It has the bullet ejector rod tip, it has the original 3 line patent and it has the screw to secure the cylinder bushing which Colt replaced with a button In the early 1890s. You can shoot modern smokeless powder cartridges in this gun.

I'm toying with building an AR versus buying one and yes, I know both the prebuilts as well as parts are an issue at this particular time. Although I am right handed, I am left eye dominate. I shoot a rifle or shotgun left.

I see that Stag makes left hand ejection uppers. Does anyone here shoot left that can tell me if left hand ejection is truly necessary or is it just a nicety?

It looks like there is a huge price difference between conventional and ambi lowers. Should I decide to build, is it worth the extra cost? It appears that everything needed to operate the firearm from either right or left shooting is available should one want to do the install/conversion of individual components with a conventional lower but I'm in the learning mode and am not 100% certain.

I must say that the plethora of parts out there is overwhelming for a novice.

Nice. I want a shorty but do not want to pay the higher price now and I am still not sure I want to go 10.5" or as "short" as possible such as 6.5" or so.

Speaking of higher price, Magpul 30 rounds mags are now over $12/ea. at PSA. It was about $8 not too long ago. Fifty percent mark up? Ammo (5.56) are higher too. Nope. Not for me.

Just got it back from the engraver, installed some parts. Capitol Armory in Cedar Park, TX, recommended, nice quality work, responsive customer service.

How far back do I have to go to find out what engraving you have had done? Edit: I've gone back in time (to the previous webpage) and found your pre-engraving pic. What exactly is the difference?

Should have been more clear, my gun trust, going through the rigmarole of building an SBR. Engraving is inside the magwell on one of the magwell lips.

Need a melee thread so i could post pictures of my dirty girl We don't have such a thread do we? I love guns but only fired off a 9mm Ruger once at a gun range, but i was a horrible shot of course. I can see why people have gun fever, i had this urge to buy one the same day i fired one. Personally i rather know how to fire something properly before buying. It feels right.

I definitely want to get a SAA pistol one day.

I don't know anything about them though so I'll have to do some research. Such an iconic design.

Yeah, sort of. It's a requirement for Form 1 weapons. You can do some googling to get a bit more info.
I find it kinda difficult to determine exactly what is necessary if you want to take an existing 16" AR rifle, bought from the manufacturer, and order a shorty 10.5" or 11" upper for it.

I've seen articles stating both "you need to engrave your name/location" on it as well as "that engraving is actually not necessary unless you actually are manufacturing the part yourself, not just buying it pre-made."

It shouldn't be so difficult to understand! Cripes. I just wanna order the damn thing and not break the law in some idiotic "gotcha" manner.

It is difficult, yes. My understanding as far as engraving and when you have to have one (not an expert, not a lawyer):

- if you intend to sell and the lower receiver already has a manufacturer and serial number (in the case of a non 80% lower, so preexisting pistol or rifle, or stripped lower if sticking to AR examples)
- if you build from scratch and you are the manufacturer, so there is no manufacturer/serial number (80% lower, building a suppressor)

And you can have all the parts but you must be able to build a legal configuration.

In my case, I bought a stripped lower (so already has a manufacturer), I got it engraved, not going to sell, but I found conflicting information when I initially did research. No harm in getting it engraved though other than out the cost of engraving and shipping. And maybe it turns out it has to be engraved.

If you already have a rifle, it needs to stay a rifle until you get your stamp.

If you don't have anything and want to build an SBR, build it as a pistol, don't buy a stock, do the paperwork.

Or you can do a Form 4 and buy a pre-built SBR.

I do have a comment/question about shorties. Why bother to go through with all the hassles and paper work with the fed or you can just get a shock wave or brace or "bare tube" receiver?

One gets bored.

That's pretty much it for me. Though if you are one that has to have a vertical grip, that's another reason. Also, some braces seem to have a little more slop in them compared to a good stock. I don't really notice until I pick up my rifle.

On the clear mags thingy ... why advertise to those you are shooting at you are about to run out of bullets? LOL
If they are close enough to see how many rounds are left, you really need to spend more time at the range improving your shooting skills.
