Good luck dude. You are a stronger man than me, for sure. I've never been able to make a complete break ever, even though I know a reconciliation is next to impossible.

So this is why you are always a prick

JK..

I am still in contact with the ex as well. It's only been 3 months. It's not as big a deal for me as it is for you though. I was only with her 3 years.. I'm over it cause she sucked now that I look back on it.

What ever happened to your car that got vandelized / stolen - was there any ever resolution to that?

Every situation is different.

You tried being in contact, it hasn't worked for you to get to where the new you's need to go, so you're probably doing the right thing.

Good luck.

Umm, no.

Good luck to the OP and don't try to contact her again... it's best that way.

why not? what doesn't kill you, will make you stronger. it would make you more mature in a long run. just don't let them walk all over you. it'd make you a better person and not seem as someone out for revenge.

but it does work better when you're in another relationship and treat your strictly as a friend only.

One person is not solely responsible for what you call a "healthy" relationship, hence the definition of 'relationship' as opposed to just one person. And who said anything about getting walked all over.

Its always helpful when someone reads the post and as opposed to just using the topic to spout self-righteousness.

For those who haven't seen her pics from postings when they were together, trust me, this breakup can't be an easy time for notfred.

You can't speak for the OP, you're not him. So you're wrong.

My relationship only lasted 2.5 years, but a year and some after the breakup, I did the same thing...it's difficult, but with a strong resolve you'll be over her soon. It's like my self-imposed 3-month alcohol hiatus - difficult at first, thinking that it could never work...but eventually I didn't even think about it.

Good luck!

I stopped talking to my ex for about 6 months after we broke up. Totally over her now. Even hung out with her and her new BF who is a pretty funny guy. Cutting off communication for a period of time can help quite a bit.

So, today I told the person who's been the single biggest influence in my life aside from my parents, who I spent most of the last 6 years with, and who was my best friend for those 6 years, and my fiancee for a couple of them, that we can't talk to each other again.

We broke up six months ago, but we've sort of kept in contact, and it's making it too difficult to get over the whole thing, so I cut it off completely. I'll probably never talk to her again - and given her impact in my life up to this point, that was a hard thing to do.

But I need to get over it, and I know this is the only way I can do it. This should be the last YAGT regarding her, if everything goes how I want it to.

Thanks for reading, now you can commence with the insults and derision that get thrown at the OP in every YAGT.

Damn...I can appreciate how hard that must be. Best of luck.

You're such a dick, you expect people to insult you and mention it in the OP. Maybe if you weren't such a condescending ass no one would ever insult you.

Sorry, I've told that story half a dozen times by now. I don't feel like writing it out again.

I would have agreed before it happened to me. I guess it may be possible if both people were totally on the same page, had absolutely no feeling for each other, and wanted more than anything to stay friends.

In a YAGT? That must be some fetishy bondage sadistic roleplaying or something.

But I made the mistake of looking at her MySpace profile the other day, something I hadn't done in quite a few months. That got to me for some reason.. seeing recent pictures of her, in her new life and such. Dredged up some old feelings, even though I've met someone else now.

It's weird.

I made the same mistake. I suggest following this:

trust me, this is not nearly as easy as you think it is. you'll be fine for the first few days, maybe even a week, but then the realization that this person is gone from your life will hit you.

when this happens, your true character will come out. if your strong enough and have the willpower to follow through you will resist the temptation to go back and contact her. each time you resist that urge, it gets a little easier. time is your only friend, and the only thing that will truly help you recover. everytime you contact her it will be like going back to square one.
