Tavor.

Bullpup is the suck.

Amen
Well, depends on the situation obviously. I've never shot an AK, but I did shoot a galil. I liked the M16 more, maybe because I was used to it more, but the Galil was fun.

The Galil isnt bullpup...
Yes, I'm aware of that obviously. I was going back to the M16/AK comparison.

That was mostly vehicle crewman who preferred the smaller AK's, large quantity of available ammo, and throwaway nature of the AK's.

I also say some pictures of special forces type guys in Iraq or Afghanistan with AK's with what looked like Aimpoint sights on them.

I know I have seen some Eotechs out there on the news.

personally, I am not a huge fan of adding batteries to a firearm even if they do have a 500 hour life or whatevr the spec is.

I think a lot of people jump on the "M16's always jam" bangwagon. Sure it may not be quite as rugged as the AK47 but it's not like the M16 jams every 30 seconds for every single soldier. I'd have to believe that the US government would make sure the weapons used now are much more reliable that they were in say Vietnam. The AK47 is a great point and spray type gun and hoping you hit somthing with all that large caliber lead out there and I'm sure it's more rugged. But the M16 is a precision weapon that is more designed for aiming and hitting your target relying more on the skill of the person shooting it rather than sheer luck and stopping power. I'd take the M16.

i saw on discovery channel about this...

ak47 is a much more powerful weapon, but very inacurate, but very durable, and can be used as a bat.

m16 is highly accurate, but not as powerful, and not very durable, but lighter.

US special forces use the ak47 just in case i heard....

The XM8 looks pretty nice. Field replacable barells, a gas system similar to the AK, lightweight.

The XM8 is really just as evolution of the G36, which in turn is extremely similar to the AR-18.
Armalite designed almost the same gun decades ago.

The XM29 OICW. It got scrapped because of "computer models" that showed it to be inefficient. The same computer modeled the "human wave" attacks of the Korean War. Stupid Army.

For a "human wave" I would like many of these, a small mountain of ammo, and maybe some MLRS launchers.

Special Forces doesn't use the AK47, nor the M16. Granted the M4 is basically a smaller version of the M16, but it only has 80% compatability. Spec Ops also uses the M249LMG.

M 16's = high maintenance and old design

AK47's = crappy weapon that's cheap to produce and maintain

You pick

M16, although it would obviously depend on the setting of use. If I'm sloshing around in monsoon weather, give me an AK. If we're talking urban warfare, M16 please.

I'm tired of hearing idiots preach about Desert Eagles. They are extremely overrated (yes, I have shot them) and not at all practical. Go get some time behind a trigger before regurgitating what works for you in CS.

The only reason I would think of special forces using ak47s is if they didn't want it to be known they were US soldiers. Easy to stand out if everyone has an AK and you show up with an M4

I've heard you'd be about as accurate throwing the shells at your attacker versus just trying to shoot him. Any truth to it? Hows the recoil? Balance? Whats your overall opinion of the gun?

For Urban, give me an M4A1 or a Colt XM-177E1.

YAGT: *POLL* M16 vs AK47. Which is the superior weapon?

It's like asking a question whether you'd like to run someone over with this or that car (better or worse). Does it matter if it kills?

IMO, there are no 'good' weapons. I think that those who create a weapon must test it on themselves first :|

Some soldiers in Iraq are complaining about the M16 in urban warfare because with its long barrel it takes longer to swing it around to shoot at the guy popping up behind you

A weapon is a tool. The question is which tool does it's job better.

I think the question should be changed from which gun is better to which gun would you least want to be used shooting at you? If that was the case, I would choose the M-16 because the avg person would have a better chance of hitting me as I run away

It's this easy:

AK-47 = Stopping power + Tumbling ammo + Reliability + Cheap

M16 = Accurate + High Range + High velocity + No wood

If I were a third world nation and needed 10,000+ rifles to get the job done, I would choose AK47s.

If I were a collector and marksman, I would get an M16. (AR-15)

That's what I don't quite like in people. We always talk about tools, but almost never of what we're going to use them for and why.

And everything you see on TV is the truth? I know for a fact that Recon doesn't use the AK-variant. I know for a fact that Team 6 doesn't use the AK-variant. I'm 90% that the majority of Rangers don't use the AK-variant...you believe your TV show, I'll believe my Lieutenant as he used to be in Recon.
