(I proposed to my wife while I had a fever of 101 & was sick as a dog with a pawn shop ring-replaced it with a nice one on our 2nd anniversary-I was broke making house payments, paying off massive CC debit & child support)

Not really. While we were dating and not ready to get married, but thinking our relationship was headed that way, we went into several jewelry stores just for fun so that I could get an idea of what she liked.

Later when I bought the ring (without her knowledge), I had a good idea of what styles she liked and picked an appropriate one.

She still hasn't seen her wedding ring.
