the .22 was very fun to shot because of the lack of recoil. I forgot what gun it was, a Ruger I believe, but I can't find the same gun model in their website.

EDIT: so what .22 pistol you all recommend? just for good cheap fun. not for self defense nor competition.

For plinking and cheap fun you can not beat a .22 in either a handgun or a rifle.

.22 is the gun of choice for plenty of hitmen, so there, a new career path!

They're alot of fun but if you can't handle a 9mm then yes, you need to turn in your man card.

Did you get instructions from someone that's experienced? 9mm shouldn't be too hard to handle. but .22 are fun to shoot, and cheap

you don't give the .22 enough credit. More cops are killed by .22's than any other caliber.

The nasty thing about them is they will have enough energy to penetrate, but not exit or break any other bones. What happens is the round bounces around your insides and just shreds it up.

If someone gets shot in the head there will only be one hole and a brain that resembles scrambled eggs.

..after years of handloading for .44, .45, .357 I now cary a .22mag S&W stainless revolver. Great shooter. Takes down coyotes..bob cats and with snake shot rattles snakes. I want to get a 22.mag lever action in stainless or a 10/22 ruger if they ever make it in .22 mag.

well, my friends didn't really instruct me or anything, I just like the lack of roil on the .22; I can still shoot a 9mm and .45; I just think .22 is more fun and easier to shoot.

I also like 357 because you can shoot 38 through it for a lighter load. It isn't as cheap as 22, but it is a more versatile handgun with a manly load and a girlie load.....I like the girlie load for most stuff.

Unfortunately, I don't think anyone makes an automatic 357....wait....actually glock makes a 357 auto. That't pretty cool..and versatile too.

You can also look for different loads of ammo for the 9mm. Lighter bullets and fewer grains will make the same round have less recoil. Generally, this works well, but you need to be sure that the round has enough power to fully eject the spent casing and doesn't leave the bullet in the barrell (admittedly unlikely, but it does happen).

If you can't handle a 9mm, then yes, the man card is revoked.

You ought to try a .500 S&W. That will put it in perspective for you.

I love my .22 pistol though - a walther p22. With my Gemtech Outback II suppressor, it is as quiet as a whisper.

I have a Buckmark, it's a nice little plinker. I love my P226, but that gets expensive to fire all day. .22 LR rounds are dirt cheap.

If it was a semi auto pistol, thats the excellent Ruger Mark series.I have a very old and well cared for Mark 1 . Use it to shoot beer twist off caps at 25 to 50 feet. Not all are hits mind you,but that gun is very accurate.Used to be cheap too,but now they run mid 200 to 300+.I paid $32.00 for mine years ago.

i find a huge difference between .38 +p rounds, and normal 9mm.

the 9mm has MUCH more recoil. (Glock)

so .38/.357 revolver will probably be my choice if i finally get off my ass and look into how to get a carry permit in VA.

sure it's only 6 rounds, but it's unlikely most civilian situations needs more than 2-3 rounds.
most run of the mill assailants run when their victim matches/out guns them.

it's Just like the cop who likes to carry 3 clips (15 round) just in case. i mean wtf.. what cop situation is there where u go thru 2 clips plus the one in your gun (45 rounds)?! (i mean in the USA, and not IRAQ.)

as for .22, no recoil is great, but why does the gun have to be that big?!

henry makes nice lever action guns. they have them in .22mag, and they're not very expensive either.

example of how cheap:

500 rounds for $25. And I KNOW Cabelas is far from the cheapest place.

wtf? $25 for 500 rounds? that better be gold plated ammo or diamond encrusted!

last time i bought .22 i got a box of 550 hollow points for less than $10 at Wal-Mart. I think it was Federal brand.

.

The Glock is a 357SIG, not .357MAG. The 357SIG is a .40S&W case necked down to a regular 9mm bullet. It's a really fun screamer of a round, but it isn't up to the .357MAG's level of power.

There are Desert Eagles chambered in .357MAG, as far as I know that's the only semi-auto in that caliber.

I actually don't like the 357sig that much. I just stick to the .40 in my P229. I was considering getting a Browning Buckmark stainless standard for fun plinking but ended up getting a s&w MP in 9mm.

Kind of apples and oranges there.

Its just a 0. 500 rounds for 7 bucks, or 50 rounds. Very little actual difference.

This is so full of bunk. If the round had enough energy to bounce around it would keep going straight. This is one of the oldest gun myths in the book.

Wife and I each have 22's. Both are great guns.

My buckmark. Now has the sights removed and a red dot added.

Wifes stainless slabside. Probably the nicest 22 out there.
