Yeah, something along the lines of, "are you single?" general works for me.

Just ask if they're single, or if you want to ask it indirectly then ask her if she'd like to get a cup of coffee or lunch some time (something casual but that may also get the 'oh, i can't, i'm seeing my bf..' response or whatever). Ask her to the movies and see what she says? Whatever you do just be casual. That's the best way to get good responses out of people.

Asking us what to do is the worst thing.

All kidding aside, is she someone you work with a lot or does she just happen to work in the same office? Odds are, in either case, you'd be fine just asking if she's single or not - just play it cool whatever you do.

It really depends. If you just ask her off the bat, usually it' taken as a direct advancement, and can result in bad things.
Just ask questions that beat around the bush. Talk about situations in your life, that have to do with significant others.
Ask questions that don't appear to be related to relationships, but require it in order to properly answer the question.

You could just plain flat out ask her. Easiest way, no games, no bull $hit.

If you dont have ze ballz, then bring up something about what she usually does on a Friday/Saturday night, like "so what do you usually do on a friday night? go clubbing, hang out with your boyfriend, go to the movies...."

Simple. Ask them how was their weekend. Almost all girls who have a bf, usually mention their bf when talking about this. Has worked for me everytime.

Ask where she's from and when she tells you ask if she has any family members living locally. Worked for me before
