have you tried any FMJ rounds? I know some guns have problems feeding hollow points (or at least some brands/types of HPs).

Good suggestion as well. My friends usp compact is sorta picky when it comes to hollow points. Seems to like the higher quality winchester stuff though.

I can certainly use them for training, but I'd prefer some type of hollow point for concealed carry.
Will buy some next time I go to the range.

HPs aren't gonna do jack if you can't chamber them...unless you plan on throwing them at the bad guys :awe:
I would get a box of FMJ and just see if it works fine or not. If it doesn't, then get it to smith to figure it out.

If the FMJs work fine, then try different brands of HPs. That's pretty much the only thing you can do.

I have the keltec P11 as well. I can wear it and underwear and you will have a hard time knowing it is there

I am use to the long pull and it is has never not fired when I have pulled the trigger.

Alright. I went ahead and got the Ruger LCP and already having problems. I didnt load any ammo into it at first so I have no idea how well it feeds.
I field stripped it so I could get an idea of how it works and how simple it is to clean. When putting it back together I made sure everything was in the right place and followed the directions closely. But now it wont feed ammo. Rounds dont come up out of the magazine properly and when I manually load one it wont let the slide close all the way.
After fishing it out I disassembled the thing again and dont see any issues. There is an ample amount of oil but not too much. Nothing is sticking. Also, when the slide is locked back the barrel feels really loose and wobbley. I know thats not right. But when I take it apart everything is sitting nice and neat where it should be.

A few things:

1) the barrel feeling "lose and wobbly" when the slide is pulled back is normal, In fact it's normal for most semi-auto's.

2) The LCP isn't really picky about ammo. I've fired FMJ, Hollow points, flat points and cast in mine and not a problem. With the ammo shortage I picked up what I could find till I got enough brass together to reload for it. With that being said it require a box or 2 to settle down and break in.

3) Most feed problems can be traced to a bad magazine and Ruger's are known to hate aftermarket mags. Use only Ruger manufactured mags.

4) As with all semi-autos make sure you rack the slide properly. Pull it back all the way and LET GO. I have a friend who hesitates when releasing the slide and gets a FTF a lot of the times. Me with the same gun never a problem,. (This occurs on most of my guns that we shoot). And NEVER, NEVER load a round by placing it in the chamber and closing the slide, always feed a round from the magazine.

5) Check out the LCP forum at http://elsiepeaforum.com/forum/index.php. Nice group that can answer a lot of your question about the LCP.

I bought my wife a LCP for her birthday last year. We have put about 500 rounds though it at the range helping her get comfortable with it as a carry and it was very picky for the first 150 rounds. Probably a dozen fails to feed. After that it was fine.

I keep the firearm very dry due to the fact she carries it all time time and I don't want all that oil collecting dirt. Each time we take it to the range it performs well (besides the fact I don't like the 'feel' of the gun.)

My wife loves it so much she wants her next gun to be another ruger. She has been trying to convince me to check out the SR9's. I've always been kinda anti-ruger because of the whole 10 round mag thing, but they got over it, so I guess I should too.

usually lug around a g19, but its a pain in the ass. even with am $80 crossbreed. anyone who says they don't feel anything when they conceal carry with it is either a liar, or someone really fat who has lots of cushioning. I startd to carry it owb with a big shirt but even that was unenjoyable because i had to wear big shirts. and im not a very big guy so i look silly.

I bought an lcp for pocket carry and its fucking amazing. Btw the pf-9 won't fit in your pocket if you wear levi's. my lcp barely fits in the rear pocket of my 505's so i wear it in the front. the .380 is a pretty dependable ccw option in the summer. in winter id go for bigger because people generally wear more clothes. if someone says that a .380 wont kill someone, they should try getting shot with one in the chest and see how they feel imo. it won't feel good.

and i have never had any sort of gun jam on me unless i held it was user error and not gun error (improper grip). including hi-points and the dreadful sigma that everyone thinks is absolute shit. the sigma is actually really enjoyable to shoot, id recommend it since there is a $50 rebate on them right now (or 2 free magazines)

I feel the same way trying to IWB carry any kind of double stack, but honestly with a single stack pistol like the Walther PPS you really won't feel that you are carrying anything and it hides with normal clothes.

Also unlike my XD, with the PPS I could wear jeans that actually fit me and not jeans that were too large to wear when not carrying.

Also applies to hybridsquirrel's post.

Carrying doublestack .45's is a chore. Double stack 9mm usually isn't bad because the barrel profile is still relatively thin.

My kimber I can carry and barely feel anything when it's slightly back off my hip. When I tried to carry my SR9, the barrel was a little long and sometimes got annoying. I don't think I'd want to carry an XD or glock day to day, because the grip is pretty wide and the slide profile is beefy.

OK, went to the crappy public range this morning. Will not go back. Too many idiots. But I needed a place to shoot and my Izaak Walton membership isnt official yet. Accuracy is not nearly what I would like but I have to remind myself its not a target pistol. Realistically if I need to use it the range of engagement will likely be 10 yards or less.

The Ruger LCP jumps quite a bit. At bare minimum I will need the little magazine extension to keep my hands on it. Will also get some super extended magazines for target practice. Amazon has all the stuff I need. Will practice more when I can, but for now I just need to remember to keep a tight grip on it. Also experimented with concealed carry this weekend and today. Gun is small enough and my pockets are big enough that no one knew anything. My only concern is in an emergency being able to pull it out quickly. Just in case anyone worries, I did not take it into any schools or churches or hospitals. Nor will I when I go back to college this fall.

I didn't read through anyone elses post, but what you've posted here is accurate. I have the keltec P11, a very similar gun (9mm, 3" barrel), and I only use it as a backup carry. The super long double action pull is not useable to me unless it is an extreme case. It is also definitely not something I take to the range other than to shoot a few mags to make sure it's feeding properly. I've had no issues with it yet though.

the p11 comes standard w/a 10round mag.
keltec also makes a flush 12round mag.

How the heck did they fit 2 extra rounds in there w/o increasing the length of the mag???

And why is a 9lb DOA pull unusable in a CCW situation?

possibly optimized the mag somehow, thinner/shorter spring maybe?

It isn't, it just takes a lot more training to get used to. If you're actually drawing your CCW shit has more than likely hit the fan and focusing on proper trigger control will probably be the last thing on your mind. If you're using a stiff DAO trigger you better have practiced it to 2nd nature and beyond.

yeah, i might get the keltec p11 if it holds 12 rounds in the same size 10round mag.

thats the most rounds per vertical inch for a ccw gun.

now to find some reviews about the 12round mag

Jedi, in response to your question regarding the DAO. It was already answered pretty much, but my every day carry is a kimber ultra, single action 1911. The trigger on that thing is beautiful, so going to the p11 is miserable from that. It's not unusable, but I definitely am glad it is not my standard carry.

Got my laser for it this week though, so we'll see if I can pick up a little bit better accuracy now.

My hands are sore. That fucking thing jumped so much it gave me sprains. BUT, I got some super extended mags so they should help my grip a lot. I also got some fat butt plates for the official Ruger magazines, so maybe it wont slip out of my hand as easily. Incidentally, as jumpy as that thing is, I can shoot equally well with both or either hands. Which is to say like shit. So long as I keep them more than 10 feet but less than 40 feet away from me, I can repel any attacker. Which is fine cuz further than 40 feet and I cant honestly say they were a genuine threat to me.

Mailing my Izaak Walton membership today, will see how it goes.

Yep. LCP's are not a gun you want to shoot much at the range. I shoot mine just enough to stay proficient. I put the Peirce finger extensions on my mags and they help a lot with the grip and hence improved my accuracy. They are fun to shoot just punishing after awhile.
