Either online like a thousand rounds at a time, or gun shows from guys who somehow got military surplus. I keep up with prices and more often than not prefer Walmart.

Don't feel bad - I picked up a 30 .06 for my son for Christmas - gave it to him early for hunting season. He left it at home, because in his area, if he can get out, it's shotgun only. That thing is a lot of fun to shoot; targets at 100, 200, and 300 yards. $1 per shot though. 20 cents per round? That would be awesome.

There is 30.06 surplus available for 50 cents/round, it's not too hard to track down. Definitely easier to find than .308 surplus.

Looking at ammo prices these days, I'm really glad I picked up an AK-47. I can buy as much ammo as I need for $240/case with no shortages. OTOH, 5.56 prices have risen 20-30% in the last month and it's frequently OOS. Even Walmart jacked up the price of their AR ammo; Federal AE AR223 was going for $7.50/box last month, and now it's $11. Eff that.

If you're willing to go with reloads you can get them from a reputable source (BVAC, etc) for $9 and some change per box, if you buy 1000+ rounds.

Or...you could pick up a Mosin-Nagant 91/30 and an 880 round crate of ammo for ~$240, and then your ammo is $140/crate for as much as you want.

Yeah, 20c/round of brass 9mm in a physical store is pretty good. The shop where I picked up my SIG Pro had that rate for American Eagle 9mm 115gr rounds...got a couple boxes of that. Even if you manage to find it online for a little cheaper, you'll likely lose it in the shipping cost and then some.

I remember back in 2005 when I got my own pistol you could find 9mm for ten cents a pop and 40 cal was a ridiculous fifteen cents. Gun snobs scoffed at how much I was paying to practice with my SW40VE.

I wish I could even find a Walmart around here that sells ammo. I don't even know what price they'd sell it for as every Walmart I have been in locally does not sell guns and/or ammo.

I try not to shoot corrosive ammo. I'm not religious about cleaning my guns after every range trip.

Reloading pays for itself way faster if you're doing .308 and such and you're reloading for match level precision.

I spent probably around $800 on my single stage set up because of the electronic scale (so worth it). But since Gold Medal Match .308 is like 1.25/round or more, reloading Lapua brass is something like .60/round. It has paid for itself really quickly.

I do need to probably grab another 1k/ea of 9 and 5.56 though.

he said 880rds and a nagant for $240, 140 for the 880rds and 100 for the nagant. That's the same price as there... I don't think he realized 880rds was technically two cases though.

Um, yeah - I knew exactly what I was saying. I don't buy 54r by the can or the "case", I buy it by the crate, thus my post.
