I think only Yahoo can help you now.
So the zip code didn't match, but everything else did? I don't really understand why Yahoo isn't doing anything about it.

If you had it for 10 years, they must have some sort of a backup of the account incase their servers crashed (yes i might be talking outta my butt xD) just get them to look into the previous records if any, and then get them to compare the details. I assume your name/dob etc havent changed since the account was made

email the guy who stole it and ask for the pictures. Seriously. You won't get it back.

Did you you a public computer to log into yahoo?

Ouch dude. I felt it in my chest when I read that.

Do the two pronged approach:
1. Keep hitting up yahoo. Ask for a manager, do whatever to get this escalated. See if you can show some documentation from your old address...a bill or something. If you have a lawyer, have him write a letter.

2. IM/email the guy that hacked the account. Tell him he can have the darn thing and you don't care and see if he would be kind enough to give you those pictures back. Be aware he may not be in the U.S. so send your request out in multiple languages (use babelfish)

Ok.. I'm going to assume the hacker doesn't know your secret answer/question that you setup with this Yahoo account.

I would first try to lock the account. I think if you fail multiple login attempts, Yahoo will lock the account. SO, use Yahoo Messenger, or try to login to Yahoo mail, and attempt to login, doing this numerous times. I can't recall how many times it takes until it locks.

Then, as Smilin stated in #1 above.

Places like Yahoo are particularly easy to hack. "Secret Questions", in particular, are a big security weakness. For instance, something like twenty dog names ("What was your first pet's name?") cover 80% of all dogs (in English, anyway).

Another popular way to steal passwords is to send somebody a link through an IM message. When the "victim" goes to the link, he/she sees the standard "Yahoo Password Screen" and automatically fills it out. But it's not Yahoo's screen.....

yeh do tell... I did not think this would be possible. Scary though since whoever stole it coul dhave used the account to retreive passwords from othersites.

It's a shame, but being civil usually gets you nowhere - but those "threatening words" can go a long way in finally getting help from someone. They get afraid of and don't want the bad publicity.

Good idea. You have to assume that anything on Yahoo or any other "public" server is subject to disappearing at any time.

QFT. No server is immune.
