I just got a y7mail.com account. Man its awesome. Gmail is for noobs.

Advantages
* can have folders
* home page of yahoo gives weather + top news stories (good for "time poor" people)
* yahoo is a cooler name than gmail
* interface is alot more sleek

I used to live by gmail but ever since the other companies (e.g. yahoo) let you search your mailbox, gmail has slowly lost its shine.

Edit: Coldkilla showed how to make the gmail interface look pretty good and makes gmail now a winner in my books.

Dunno. But if you want imap then the service your using is pretty immaterial cause you will be just routing all your messages through outlook. From a web-based emails point of view, its definately got the upper hand on gmail. gmail hasn't really improved for the last year or so. im really digging the interface.

Folders?! Are you kidding? Rules + Tags is far superior to folders in every conceivable way.

Is it possible in gmail to have emails that you have tagged not show up in inbox? I like keeping my inbox clean and i can just transfer emails to appropriate folders.

*shrugs*

I use hotmail.

The 'more professional' argument is complete horsesh1t imho.

Anyone who discriminates against you on the basis of your email provider is a fsckwit you don't want to be work for/with/know/sleep with.

I actually find the Yahoo interface to be bloated and very slow to use. Scrolling through the messages always lags for me. Sometimes less is more and while I would agree that folders would be a nice addition for Gmail, I still prefer it to Yahoo.

Also, Gmail just added a new feature, the ability to send messages from the past which has been incredibly valuable.

From what I gather, you archive and it is archived and removed from your inbox. However, if you search your mailbox you should be able to find the messages again.

I have used both and prefer gmail.
Integrated gchat and AIM, shareable calendars and documents. No spam.
Cant be beat.

I don't get spam on any of my important accounts - just keep a spare email for sign-ups. I particularly disklike googles calendars - so unintuitive. However, I love how it autocompletes the email addresses for you.

, perhaps you haven't really looked very hard into gmail because that feature has been there if not since the beginning but at least for months.

Actually I was thinking about paying the fees for my own domain + email through 1&1...$15/year gets me my own customized email AND domain name!

Yahoo Mail is slow and bloated. Yahoo adds advertisements to all of your emails. Yahoo mail tends to mark a lot of non-spam AS spam.

Gmail rocks.
