Gmail rocks.

Gmail used to rock. Its been the same for ages now. Seriously. THe others are catching up and the latest yahoo I've been using seems pretty sleek in its design (box colors, popup boxes, etc). Gmail still is very good though, but I'm starting to feel like its tapered off.

And at least yahoo isn't in beta!

Yeah, we get it. You're the kid who always has to be different. Have fun and enjoy your yahoo mail. Meanwhile the rest of us will keep on using gmail.

I'm still confused by the Archive concept.
Archive is just a general storage area for your emails. If you select one or more emails and hit Archive, they leave the Inbox and are stored away in the archive. They are not deleted and you can still search for and view them.

If you label email(s) and Archive them, it's then similar to folders in that you'll see the Labels on your lower left sidebar and if you click the label you'll see all the emails under that label, just as if it was a folder.

lol... so now adding "beta" to an image is a huge flaw in the usefulness of the design?

The "Sleek" design that Yahoo has is what makes the thing so damn slow. The gmail design of being completely slimmed down and simple is what makes it much faster and much more usable.

Gmail has not been the same for ages now... if you use it regularly you'd notice all sorts of subtle changes that add functionality rather than pretty looks or space for more ads to be shown.

Consider Gmail from the professional standpoint. Say you're just out of college and you're looking for a job. Do you want the email account that is going to add a full paragraph of text ads going to a potential employer, or do you want ONLY the text you've personally typed out?

I prefer yahoo for the folders, for I don't like those fancy doo-hickey taggie things. Oh my God, is this the first sign that I've finally become the old crusty techno phobe I use to mock.

Before you know it, my dvd player will be flash 12:00 all the time.

a) hotmail doesn't do that.

b) unless you're employer is a gigantic jackass I doubt they'll notice or care.

Izzactly.

If your CV is so weak that you think your chances of getting a job increase by using a non-free and recognisable email address, then this is the route for you

Gmail is nearly perfect except for one glaring thing: Everyone you send an email gets added to your 'contacts' list... that's fricking stupid.

I don't pretend to be an expert here, but I'm not so sure it's really just provider dependent, but rather where the address has been, or been seen.

My boring ancient hotmail address gets no spam at all, but I only use it for work and family.

My gmail (which I no longer use) used to get spam, but I used it for a few forums and newsletters.

My work email gets none at all either.

google > yahoo.

I don't see the appeal of yahoo, I've never seen the appeal of yahoo.

IDK where that job bit came from but having your own domain and full controll over the email provided from it is better then any free service

Folders?! Are you kidding? Rules + Tags is far superior to folders in every conceivable way.

Is it possible in gmail to have emails that you have tagged not show up in inbox? I like keeping my inbox clean and i can just transfer emails to appropriate folders.

Archive

Hmm interesting..just checked it out. I still like the folders concept, dunno why though.

Because you're a n00b from the '70's.

Since Microsoft is going to buy Yahoo you may want to think twice before joining the hegemony.

yahoo classic (not their new outlook like reader) runs faster for me than gmail so i use that primarily. also i hate how gmail won't let you turn off the gtalk window.

igoogle + gmail ftw. Unlike yahoo, it allows you to either keep your interface and features minimal or full of all sorts of bells and whistles. I like being given options to disable most stuff which is something Yahoo doesn't do as well.
