adding everyone I send an email to my contact list is RETARDED. and I don't like tags, I like a list of folders on the left hand side of my screen. I will never seen how tags are any better, they're just different. And to my I like them a lot less. And yes, I know how to use them.

visible folders > tags or anything else.

lulz

yahoo's spam filter sucks, but google adding everyone to my contact list (I know I already mentioned it) is worse, it takes forever to delete them. Possible the most useless annoying feature I've ever seen, at least give me the option to disable it.

I just got a y7mail.com account. Man its awesome. Gmail is for noobs.

Advantages
* can have folders
* home page of yahoo gives weather + top news stories (good for "time poor" people)
* yahoo is a cooler name than gmail
* interface is alot more sleek
Folders are tags. Except an email can only be in one folder, where as it can have multiple tags.

Yahoo's homepage is bloated and disgusting. It's loaded with shit and takes long to load. iGoogle has the same features, except more (You can add your own feeds and own content) and less bloated, and has tabs.

GMail is short for Google Mail, which is cooler than Yahoo Mail.

Interface is sluggish, looks worse, sluggish, the colors don't match and it's sluggish.

Additional benefits:
  • Google's excellent spam filter
  • Free POP access and free forwarding
  • You can sort emails using XXX+YYY@gmail.com to sort online signup forms from personal email, or vice versa.
  • Interface is fast, stripped down
  • One Google account can be used across of all Google's services, where as Yahoo only has mail and homepage

Ns1, Google Docs can use tags.

Also, for all you privacy nuts: Google doesn't read your email, the algorithm does. And it's not a person. Algorithms do not make judgements.

I absolutely hate the new Yahoo mail interface. The home page isn't even my F'ing mail. If I wanted news, I'd go to their F'ing news site. When I want mail, I go to the mail page. Just because of that I will never use their F'ing service. Gmail rocks Yahoo easy.

I used to live by gmail but ever since the other companies (e.g. yahoo) let you search your mailbox, gmail has slowly lost its shine.

i can do all that in gmail...igoogle.com....all the RSS feeds I want to list and post...in the order I want...nice and fast...

i really dont like yahoo

Folders are tags. Anyone who thinks differently has no idea how to use tags. The only difference is folders are more limited and tags have more capability to sort your emails.

Is it possible in gmail to have emails that you have tagged not show up in inbox? I like keeping my inbox clean and i can just transfer emails to appropriate folders.

Tags + ruules are great but that's no reason to exclude folders. Look at Outlook. If you can do it in Outlook, there HAS to be a reason why we have folders.

Roger that. I use yahoo mail, IMAP w/ Outlook, and pushed to my Sony Ericsson K790a. I've always been happy with yahoo mail. Their recent changing of smtp servers kinda threw me though.

Yawhat? Gwho? My email address ends in my domain. That's the one I give out for anything important. It goes direct to my PDA or into my Windows Mail inbox.

So does mine. Except, I can use the Gmail interface or any IMAP client. Google Apps still wins!

It's pretty dated, and pointless.

1 tag = 1 folder

An email can only belong to 1 folder, whereas an email can belong to many tags

I don't get what's so hard to understand about this.

it keeps the messages out of the inbox (some people like the clean feeling) - OCD?

Gmail rocks.

Gmail used to rock. Its been the same for ages now. Seriously. THe others are catching up and the latest yahoo I've been using seems pretty sleek in its design (box colors, popup boxes, etc). Gmail still is very good though, but I'm starting to feel like its tapered off.

And at least yahoo isn't in beta!

Old things can still be better. XP vs Vista. XP is sleek and quick (relatively) compared to Vista's tons of new features and fucking sucking

Gmail is better: quicker, less ads (ads are small as well), simpler, and less spam

Sorry for the triple post

I totally have to disagree Barack. Gmail can change. I've changed mine. Not to mention my homepage. Gmail friggen rocks!

Check these out:
My Mail
My Homepage

Homepage:
-My Mail
-Calander
-Weather for my town
-Pacman!
-CNN News
-Google News
-CNN Tech News
-TechDirt News
-Wired Top Stories
-CNET News

Features:
-99.99% Spam Free.
-No ads (in gmail) (Some tiny ads in my iGoogle 3rd party gadgets, hardly noticeable).
-Modified Folder Structure (May end up going 100% labels, I've grown to it finally! It's actually kinda nice assigning 1 email to 2-3 labels each. Its quite nice to be able to look up "John Doe" through ether the work tab or the "John Doe" tab.)

I'm always saying Barack Obama doesn't have the experience necessary to be president... as shown by this post

Anyways,

I'll never get a y7mail.com account. Man yahoo blows. Gmail is for everyone with sense.

Yahoo Disadvantages
* Can ONLY have folders
* home page of yahoo gives weather + top news stories (worthless to me, but gmail can do better) I HATE seeing that shit when I log into my yahoo account.
* yahoo was never a cool name. It was played out long before google was ever founded.
* interface is garbage

And oh, by the way... I definitely understand the thought behind:
yahoo < gmail < private email domain/server

But... my personal email history of my primary address was:
hotmail then isp then private domain/server then gmail

gmail is just a lot more functional for me than my private domain email... but I really should look into using my domain email on gmail.... that would be nice.
