Yahoo mail > Gmail

Semi off-topic:
I've been using Yahoo mail for ages. but with yahoo mail search broken (at least for me) and gmail providing POP for free, I'm thinking of switching.
The wrinkle is, I have 4000+ emails in yahoo (in multiple folders) that I want to save. Is there a way to transfer these emails to Gmail (and no, I don't want to "forward" them because I want to preserve the original date/"from" fields.

Suggestions?

I used to use Yahoo mail, but when I switched I couldn't believe how much better gmail was. Its spam filter is lightyears beyond Yahoo.

That is just silly.

Yahoo predates gmail by a long shot and there has been professional user of Yahoo well before gmail even existed - hell probably before Google existed. Therefore it seems sorta silly that only now gmail can be considered a professional service.

I work as a professional and am in a position to hire people. When reviewing resumes, the email address has never, ever, played any role what so ever in reviewing resumes. I think it is beyond stupid as hell to judge somebody if they use Yahoo opposed to gmail.

Anyhow, I prefer Yahoo primarily because I have been using it longer than gmail. That being said for a few years now I have owned my own domain and paid for a host and that is by far the best way to handle email.

to be fair if the applicant was named "candy mclacey" and her email addy was "performer23@majorpornsite.com" you'd probably raise an eyebrow and i bet one way or another the email would come into play

I like Gmail since most of my buddies now are on gchat, the rest are on aim which gmail handles as well. I like the search function, I haven't had any issue with the spam folder, and I like that my mail arrives clean and I just have to view the adds (Which sometimes adds hilarity to an email if the adds completely contradict what's in the email).

I've tried both and yahoo email sucks,first off the ads are really annoying,secondly you have to pay for pop acess which gmail provides for free and my last gripe with yahoo is that it crashes often.Since i've switched to gmail i couldn't be happier the ads are text which don't cover the whole interface and gmail has free pop access.I'll never leave gmail.

find a program that lets you download your yahoo mail via pop or spring 20 bucks for the Yahoo Plus to download all your emails to a local client. Well worth 20 bucks to have a copy of your emails stored on a back up drive.

After that's done ... use gmail.
