Remember the bumper sticker from the early Nixon administration:

GET SPIRO FIRST!

Impeach both of them at the same time. Start by charging them for the murder of every American troop who died in their war of lies. Then, add treason for their wholesale shredding of the rights guaranteed to every American citizen under the U.S. Constitution. Then, you can move to their violations of U.S. and international laws against torture under the Geneva Conventions.

I'll forego the firing squad. When they're convicted, they should be given a number years of all expense vacations at the beautiful downtown Guantanamo Hilton with free daily passes for the exciting waterboard rides. They aren't torture. They said so, themselves, so we can believe them.

When that's through we should ship them off to the Hague to be tried for Crimes Against Humanity. :|

BUSH PLEASED WITH GONZALES' TESTIMONY
Posted: Thursday, April 19, 2007 6:10 PM by Mark Murray

From NBC's Mark Murray
Deputy White House press secretary Dana Perino has issued this statement relaying the White House's support of Alberto Gonzales. "President Bush was pleased with the Attorney General?s testimony today. After hours of testimony in which he answered all of the Senators? questions and provided thousands of pages of documents, he again showed that nothing improper occurred. He admitted the matter could have been handled much better, and he apologized for the disruption to the lives of the U.S. Attorneys involved, as well as for the lack of clarity in his initial responses."

More: "The Attorney General has the full confidence of the President, and he appreciates the work he is doing at the Department of Justice to help keep our citizens safe from terrorists, our children safe from predators, our government safe from corruption, and our streets free from gang violence."

Anyone could have written that story a month ago and not have been regarded as clairvoyant---perfectly predictable from an administration that has lost all touch with reality. Hopefully some Republican's will tell GWB&co. that its just not playing in Peoria---and if GWB&co did not like scene one act one---just wait---it will get better and better and better before this is through. And then they can start on the next lucky scandal---or run them one after another---who said day time programming was a bore?

If the subject weren't so serious, this would be stranger than a skit from Saturday Night Live.
But if the other Republican senators in the committee give a thumbs down to Gonzales, I think his goose is cooked.---with Arlan Specter putting to Gonzales exactly that way--remarking that Gonzales needs to regard this as a reconfirmation hearing.
You mean like... oh... Sen. Lindsay Graham (R-S.C.) or Sen. Thomas Coburn (R-Ok.)?
Sen. Lindsay Graham (R-S.C.), a conservative Republican, told Gonzales: "You have a tremendous credibility problem with many members of Congress."

Graham also said he did not buy the attorney general's argument of "limited involvement" in the decision to fire the attorneys, believing instead that the eight had "personality conflicts" with officials in Washington and that "you made up reasons to fire them" afterward.
.
.
Sen. Thomas Coburn (R-Okla.) asked the attorney general, "Why should you not be judged by the same standards you judged these U.S. attorneys?" When Gonzales said, "We all make mistakes" and asked for time to correct his failings, Coburn replied, "Mistakes have consequences."

Disavowing allegations of partisan motive in the firings -- "I know that's the politics of the blood sport that we're playing," he said -- Coburn argued, "The best way to put this behind us is your resignation."
lack of clarity......lack of clarity.....lack of clarity.....bwahh-ha-ha-ha! that's the most creative and wonderous spin on the word "lie" i have ever heard. signature rovian sewage. who, in this whole wide world is going to buy in to such malarky. un-be-liev-a-ble.

So his defense is incompetence, rather than lies.

Great, hand him a freedom medal and let him get back to (allegedly) not knowing what is happening in his own office.

It would seem to be par for the course for this administration.....

When it come to creative--don't forget the peanut gallery with the words arrest Gonzales duck taped to the back of their shirts---and they had a field days as Gonzales intoned I can't recall 71 times --count them---71 times.--making Gonzales somewhat uncreative.

Sadly Specter still can't quite make up his mind.

Gonzales claims he can still effectivley do his job. Since he wasn't doing anything except rubber stamping he's probably telling the truth for once.

Specter as much said that if you don't resign on your own the President ought to can you.

I the last half hour of the testimony-including Specter's comments-in political-speak he made it extremely clear that Gonzales should go. Don't mistake his politeness for indecision.

From what I heard, and given the White House's tepid comments afterwards, I'd say the chances of Gonzales resigning/being shown the door in the next week are extremely high.

At the end of the day I still have to be critical of Specter---and for all he said or implied---he was still unable to actually climb the fence and get over on the side that says he should resign.

And now there are still only two GOP Senators who say flat out say Gonzales SHOULD go. There are still a huge pile of very uneasy GOP Senators---but until they fully climb the fence and flat out say Gonzales must go-----Gonzales is a staying.---and thats the simple bottom line.

You either climb the fence, get on the other side, and move forward---or you almost climb the fence---and stay stuck there.---the strategy of the wishy washy.

The former group speak loudly and clearly---the latter group are mutes still hedging their bets.

Car 54 where are you?

It depends. If Leahy (or his House counterpart) are keen on going after Rove, then the WH (read: Rove) may decide its better to just keep Gonzales around to continue catching rocks with his forehead.

It's a lose-lose situation. Goodling is likely to testify. She cannot refuse a subpoena. Senate side Republicans would likely agree to limited immunity if Leahy agrees to put some reasonable bounds on this inquiry. Almost everyone to date gives a picture of significant WH involvement and Gonzales being aware of most substantive decisions going back to 2005. Assuming Goodling fills in more detail, then Gonzales is cooked and its likely she will singe Karl (and others) in the WH.

If Bush was smart . . . which he's not . . . he would send an emissary over to say, "what will it take to make this go away?" Leahy is hardcore so he's likely to say, "fire Gonzo and remove Karl's token in Arkansas . . . and here's my list of acceptable replacements for both positions."

Sorry---Bali---I still can't buy your take---in terms of a tepid or glowing comments by the WH, that means exactly zero given GWB. You may be right that its going to take some follow up
to keep the pressure on---grilling Goodling or a subpoena for Rove---but where I come from you strike when the iron is hot---and if GOP Senators can't bring themselves to call for the resignation, I count it as a giant step backwards.----------as Gonzales keeps turning our Justice department into the Injustice department.---------justice delayed is still justice denied.

And thats the simple spectre of Specter.----------chickenshit rides again.
