yeah, in japan yahoo auctions are king. ebay japan doesn't even exist anymore. lol
That is because the Japanese people are not like the American people. Look around us, everyday someone is trying to get rich quick, and wouldn't know how to make an honest buck if their life depended on it. The children on America needs to be taught some old school values. -my two cents
EBay charges heavily to use there service, but I will pay it so I don't get scammed by a seller. The more EBay charges the sellers the higher people put there shipping cost. That is how business works. In the end Ebay will not be cheaper then regular online deals, so buyers will look elsewhere. Heck I see people pay more then retail on used Ebay items, but that is okay by me.. but you won't catch me doing that. 90% max for new and 50%max for used else I don't bother. Except specialty items not found anywhere.
How heavily does ebay really charge?
Insertion fees by starting bid or reserve set:
Starting price or
reserve set Fee
$0.01 ? $0.99 $0.25
$1.00 ? $9.99 $0.35
$10.00 ? $24.99 $0.60
$25.00 ? $49.99 $1.20
$50.00 ? $199.99 $2.40
$200.00 ? $499.99 $3.60
$500.00 or more $4.80
The Final Value Fee is where you may get slammed if you sell very expensive stuff:
Not sold....no final value fee, so you only pay the insertion fee
Up to $25 final selling price.............5.25% of the closing value (up to $1.31)
$25.01-$1,000 final selling price......5.25% of the initial $25.00 ($1.31), plus 2.75% of the remaining closing value balance ($25.01 to $1,000.00)
Over $1,000................5.25% of the initial $25.00 ($1.31), plus 2.75% of the initial $25.00 - $1,000.00 ($26.81), plus 1.50% of the remaining closing value balance ($1,000.01 - closing value)
So I really don't see how ebay charges so heavily......you can list an auction for .25 with one free photo. If it doesn't sell, you spent a quarter. Put a reserve and you pay more. If it sells, you owe a few bucks, but you also have a sliding scale......at most you pay $26.32 final fee for an item that sells for exactly $1,000. I'd gladly pay $26 to have the access to a site that'd let me move an item for $1,000 quickly.
If you think ebay is heavy, try a true live auction. The buyers get hit with a typical buyer's premium of 10% above their winning bid.....yes, the buyers pay a premium. The sellers pay typically 20%-25% of their items winning bids to the auctioneer. Yes, the seller loses at least 20% of his income from the bidding to the auctioneer.....and 25% is much more typical.
Ebay is cheap!!! Most auctions I list cost me .35 and I usually use my website to host my own pictures so I just use their one free pic from them, it's free after all, then link to any other pics I want buyers to see......and that costs nothing.
The extras are high, though. Gallery pics are a buck, bolding your listing is a buck, supersizing, picture pack, highlighting your ad, all extra.
But a basic auction can be had for a quarter.....so please don't bleat the ebay is so expensive to list crap, because it is crap.
And ebay HAS NOT INCREASED ITS FEES FOR PRIVATE SELLERS IN YEARS!!!! Their insertion fees have been stable for the last 2-3 years.
