Yahoo to increase free email storage to 1GB

Yahoo on Tuesday said it plans to once again boost its free e-mail storage limit--this time to 1GB, the same amount offered by archrival Google.

Beginning in late April, Yahoo will upgrade free users to the new storage limit of 1GB, up from its current 250MB. The company said it will take about two weeks for all Yahoo Mail users to see the boost.

What I like about Yahoo is it offers anti-virus scanning. I hate how Gmail won't let me send or receive EXE files.

They are also upgrading their spam filter so that it verifys the from addy.

about time. have gmail and am sticking with them.

if yahoo really wanted to make a statement, how about offering 2GIG as opposed to just matching the competitor.

I really dont think 2gig would hurt the company either. After all, about 99% of their users will never even come CLOSE to 1gig. (I made those statistics up but remember "95% of all statistics are false" )

I would guess that most of your recepients' email systems would reject .EXE files anyway. I always zip .EXE's for that reason.

When I send zipped EXE files to my Gmail account, I always get Failure Delivery: Illegal Attachment error message.

My office email system rejects zip files, without notifying the sender or the intended recipient.

Hmm... This is weird. How long have you been getting this error?

I sent zipped .EXE files to several people over the last couple of weeks no problem. They were Flash slideshows of my kid that I sent to friends and family. I sent it from my Gmail account both to other gmail accounts and non-gmail accounts. No problems.

Now today I try sending the same files to another gmail account and get an error saying the ZIP contains an EXE file and refuses to send.

Have they changed something recently? Have others been able to send zipped EXEs in the past? Can you now?
