*sigh* I wish we got the rain & flooding. One of the larger rivers in this area gets some awesome class 3 rapids on it when it's at flood stage. I can't wait to get back out kayaking; I didn't get in enough this summer.

This will give you some idea what's happening in Houston:

More than half the city is still without power, getting gas can take 3-5 hours in some places. A lot of bare shelves in supermarkets.

I think it's pretty funny, people seem to think that everything will be fixed the next day and all will be well. People don't seem to understand that when 3 million people have their power go out, it's not quite that easy ... on top of that, there's still damage, flooding and people trying to figure out what is going on with their houses. It's also sad how the media is attacking the government - they were asking why the FEMA trucks were here at 7pm instead of 4pm and wanted someone to blame.

This shit is ridiculous - it's going so much better than fuckin NO and the rest of LA.

You're absolutely right. There is a seawall in Galveston, only problem is that there were homes built where there is no seawall, and Bolivar Peninsula looks like someone dropped a nuclear weapon on it.

afterward it was about usual for houston in september, ~85-90 with 90%+ humidity. thankfully this cool front came through or else you'd be seeing people dying of heat.

air conditioners blew off the building i work in, and the top floor flooded. no idea how long until they get power.

Still no power since Friday at about 9:55pm.
Centerpoint still has about 61% of their customers without power.
At least I have water, and my appliances are gas. I even have cable / internet, if I hook to the generator.
Here's hoping power is restored today.

I've got power. But no ceilings in my family room, or master bedroom, bathroom, and closet. Shingles came off and the ceilings collapsed in about half my house here in league city. About 15 folks from work showed up and helped us clean up, but it's going to take months to get all the wet sheet rock ripped out and replaced, not to mention the new roof and carpeting.

Hurricanes suck

the low death toll at present may be offset by the MIA count.

I've been wondering too about what happened to the people who didn't evacuate. There is a restriction on showing the West end of Galveston, and the Mayor alluded to that it was "devastated" and she was teary eyed.

I've heard that the west end of Galveston is gone.

Well I live in Houston and eye passed right on me.
First off eye was really large, took a few hours just for eye to pass. Second, strong, constant winds caused massive damage to power and communications lines. Streets are littered with broken branches and debris.
About half (or more) of the area is still without power.

edit: some apartments are destroyed as well. Roofs taken off, stuff inside all worthless now.
