How does home insurance work there anyway, do they cover that or what?

Assuming you have the insurance. My house was appraised at $113k (I just bought it in the middle of the slump) and I pay $2600/yr for wind insurance and $277/yr for flood.

I wouldn't count the west coast of southern Florida out of the woods yet.

I see it curving up the west coast once it passes the keys.

Hopefully I am WRONG this time but I have called every storm right this season so far far better than the official forecasts with their fancy computer models that they rely too much on.

Hopefully Ike spares Lousiana... the whole state is still recovering from Gustav. There are still large parts of that state that still don't have power, and some of them will not have power till another week or so.

And for the love of the almighty, NOLA is not representative of the state of Lousiana, just b/c NOLA didn't sink/ get destroyed doesn't mean that the rest of the state faired as well. Hopefully Ike doesn't damage us any more.

On on other news, my buddy said he got hurricane evaced from his oil rig a few days ago. I guess they are still waiting in the GoM on what to do with the oil rigs, and their personel.

It looks like (hopefully) the mountains of Cuba are going to sap a lot of the strength out of it. Category 2 or weak 3 is a hell of a lot better than a strong 4.

Stop lying.

You and the officials said it would trek on to Texas and you said you would not see rain from the system.

I said it would go northeast and North Carolina would get rain from it and it did.

I conceded it went a little further west than I originally thought but it certainly came back northeast as I said it would.

Stop lying.

It is a shame how the rest of the state is ignored.

Rita ripped the crap out of coast west of Lafayette and was hardly noticed by Mainstream Media.

Gustav really nailed Lousiana between Houma and Lafayette and wrecked havoc in the Baton Rouge area and hardly anyone notices.

How did your buddy's rig do with Gustav?

My buddy flew out of Galveston for his rig, and then apperently he flew back in b/c of fears with Ike. As to the condition of some of the rigs my friends work on, i could hardly guess. I haven't heard too much about rig damage.

Yeah, I left Lafayette to go chill at my GF places in Opelousas.. St Landry parish... bad idea. Laffy did pretty good, while St Landry got screwed and it seems like most of the state got a good beatin' from Gustav. Its shame that some places won't have power for at least a few more weeks.. but those estimates could have been revised. Baton Rouge got hit hard; Terrebone Parish, and Lafourche Parish.. if i recmeber from one article claimed that they received a good thrashing from Gustav.. Heck we still got curfews in effect for areas still.

well... i guess it shall be another week of waiting... waiting and preparing...

Well, the Houstonians can always evac to Louisiana...

Reports from the Turks and Caicos say that somewhere between 80-95% of the buildings have been levelled on Grand Turk.

It went into the lower dense part of Cuba.

Be interesting to see how it looks later in the morning.

HURRICANE IKE DISCUSSION NUMBER 28
NWS TPC/NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL AL092008
1100 PM EDT SUN SEP 07 2008

INITIAL MOTION IS WESTWARD OR 270/11. NO SIGNIFICANT CHANGES HAVE
BEEN MADE TO THE TRACK FORECAST OR TO THE FORECAST REASONING. THE
STEERING CURRENT ASSOCIATED WITH A DEEP-LAYER RIDGE TO THE NORTH
AND NORTHEAST OF IKE IS EXPECTED TO CAUSE THE TRACK TO GRADUALLY
BEND TOWARD THE WEST-NORTHWEST OVER THE NEXT DAY OR TWO...AND THE
TRACK MODELS ARE FAIRLY WELL CLUSTERED ON A TRACK ALONG MUCH OF
CUBA. LATER IN THE FORECAST PERIOD...AFTER IKE IS PREDICTED TO
MOVE INTO THE GULF OF MEXICO...

SOME OF THE DYNAMICAL MODELS SHOW A
WEAKNESS IN THE RIDGE THAT COULD TURN THE HURRICANE MORE NORTHWARD.

HOWEVER A NUMBER OF MODELS DO NOT SHOW MUCH OF A WEAKNESS OR A
TURN.

SUFFICE TO SAY THAT IT IS SIMPLY TOO EARLY TO SAY WHAT
PORTION OF THE GULF COAST WILL ULTIMATELY BE AFFECTED BY IKE.

I have been in all of those areas the last few days and Lafourche and Terrebone took a serious ass kicking. Baton Rouge has a ton of roof damage/ down powerlines and trees and something like half the state was without power for a while. It will be quite a while before some places get power back on.

Hell, yesterday was the first "normal" day in Jefferson Parish since the evac. Gas/food/ice was finally easy to find and you didn't have to wait in 3 hour lines to get it.
