Oh! Thanks for the clarification - i just read thru that and assumed that it was a southern thing to keep your dinner dishes on the roof.

They have changed their predictions regarding the path. Moving a little more north, and it looks like this is going to hit Houston almost dead-on.

I edited it, does that help? In any case, it doesn't even look like I'm going to get flooded. It's barely even gonna be a cat 2 when it makes landfall.

Yeah, this is gonna blow this weekend.

Im not in the path of the hurrican per se, but the rain that it will cause of most of Texas is going to suck for many who are already experiance flooding.

Texas Tech has canceled classes do to wide spread flooding. Many of the main roads in town are already under water. Its expected to continue raining tomorrow, and if ike hits saturday itll rain saturday, sunday and possibly monday.

Classes are canceled, which is good, but I also work full time for Tech, and I'm classified as essential personnel. Son of a bitch.

Just checked the hour by hour forcast for Lubbock. Yup the forcast is rain all day every day through Sunday.

The shift north makes it seem like everything west of I-45 is going to be on the clean side. That sucks for east texas and west louisiana though

Clean side of not. Houston is going to have major flooding. It floods easy.

Yea for sure. It seems some of the low lying areas in Galveston bay have already started to flood. I think people are taking solace in the fact its a fast moving storm but with all that water in the bay and the bayou's of Houston emptying into the same bay, there is going to be some ridic flooding.

A fast moving storm that is going to run into another major storm system thats fairly slow moving. Odds are its going to be raining for awhile.

A potential for 20-foot storm surge, hopefully those who needed to evacuate were able to do so. I'm not worried about flooding, as I live about 30 miles west of Houston, however, there is a good chance for tornadoes all around the storm even after it weakens, and the potential for projectiles from hurricane force winds busting windows, and ripping roof tiles, and of course downing power lines.

Update #45 is out.

Strengthened to 105MPH and deepened to 953mb. Undergoing about 15kt of northerly wind shear. But that hasn't stopped it from strengthening this morning. Better hope they keep up. The models say they should until just before landfall.

Now expected to reach cat3 status just before landfall. We will see, but I shudder to think if conditions become more favorable.

Well it looks as though Ike is weakening even further and it won't be as strong as they predicted by the time it hits landfall.

At this time, I think they are more concerned about storm surge than wind speed, as some parts have already seen water move up a lot.

The pressure is down to 952, which is pretty damn low for a cat 2. Don't understand why it's not at least a cat 3 yet. Meteorologist said that since the storm was so big after hitting Cuba, it's taking a lot longer for it to organize itself around the eye wall.

Yeah, it's a HUGE storm and pushing a LOT of water, they've even had to close the outfall canals' flood gates in New Orleans already....in comparison, they didn't have to close some of them for Gustav until after landfall.

Waves are breaking over the seawall and it's only LOW TIDE, according to Jim Cantore. High Tide is around 4.30am tomorrow, right around landfall.

It's showing as still being a tropical depression by the time it's in Ohio. I think Hurricane Opal several years ago did something like that, except it took a much more direct route, plowing northward over land, through Pennsylvania.

because people 100 miles inland don't need to leave.
