I live in Katy, and a neighborhood a half-mile from me was without power, but I think they might have been restored. Some reports of trees down, fence damage, some roof damage, but otherwise, I'm hearing most people didn't have any serious damage.

Well, Ike cruised over us here in East Texas yesterday, about 260 miles north of Galveston. The eye passed within 40 miles of me, about 2:30pm. It was at tropical storm strength. 60 mph winds. Rain wasn't that bad. All kinds of small branches in the roads. Some fences pushed over.

I'm still without power and had to drive to work to get on the internet. Power's been off since 3pm yesterday, ~22 hrs so far. Apparently 30,000 people lost power here in Longview. Driving around town at night with no street lights etc. is weird. I came across several intersections with no functional traffic lights.

One of the officials reported seeing 3 bodies, but they aren't wanting to release any specific information, or confirm if waters are receding in parts of the island.

My power is back on after 25 hours. Thankfully we had water and sewer at least. No damage to my place here in Nacogdoches but I know there's lots of pine trees down in the area. The wind didn't seem as bad as when Rita came through here as a cat1 hurricane. Still had a shitload of tree limbs on the roof and in the yard though. But I really can't complain, I'm one of the lucky ones.

We had NOTHING down here in Corpus for the entire time Ike was doin' his thing with Galveston and Houston - Now that he's gone, it's raining and the wind's picked up a little.

I'm living the power free lifestyle, looking at SWEPCO's outage map.
I don't know what's going on. The number of customers without power is actually creeping up 30-40 at a time.

My college is closed until 9/22 for cleanup. I'm relieved because power issues are making driving pretty hazardous, especially at 4 way traffic stops. I've seen video of people running stops, and heard about people driving on the wrong side of the roads.

TXCN has a helicopter flying over south Houston right now, and people heading to Galveston are causing severe gridlock. Sheesh people the island is closed for probably several weeks, stay off the road!

My family in Houston is too. Good luck. My mom is saying it is going to be two weeks before power is restored. It is awful.

My friend who lives in houston has power at his place.... He is in southwest houston, just near the Beltway and 59. Apperently he doesn't have water, and most of the surrounding area around doesn't / didn't have power... I guess i'll hear an update from him when he gets home...

I feel bad for those Houstonians... no power/ water, but there are folks still in Louisiana that lack power and such, so lets keep in both states in our minds when we think of the devastation.

Geeeez, I wonder if this is the remnants of Ike passing through Erie, PA now.

30mph winds with 52mph gusts, with 65mph possible.
The lights flickered twice already, and stuff keeps pinging the air conditioner outside. Damn mice, stay in there!

I hope this blows the warm air away though. It's night time, and the heat index is 85°F. It was in the 60's and 70's last week.


And the lights just dimmed again.


A little farther south, around ZIP 16117, the gusts are 80mph+.

It is the remnants of Ike, we are getting the winds here in eastern Ohio too.

Ripped the roof off our deck, ripped a bunch of siding off our house and the night is just starting. I'm tired of running around the house fixing stuff to make it through the night. I'll just have to wait till the morning to see the final damage tally.

I guess I'm glad then that I'm renting - I don't have to worry about building repairs. Hopefully no trees crush the place though. That would be somewhat problematic.
They've stood through strong winds while loaded down with snow; hopefully they'll weather this.
Hopefully nothing that injures me either - this is the first year I'm going to be going without medical insurance. The money's just not there for it anymore.


Planting trees right next to a structure seems like a bad idea though.
Power lines, too. Trees fall. Putting them near important things, while perhaps aesthetically pleasing to some, strikes me as impractical at best, and risky at worst.

It's been fairly warm here for a few days now, but yes, it's in the mid-80's now, 10:38pm. It was in the 70s most of last week, and into the 50s at night.

Yes it is. Ike supper-charged a cold front that was coming west anyway.

I think I'm the only Galvestonian on this forum, but yeah things didn't turn out well, but could have been worse, I guess. Like I said earlier, I live <1/4 mile from the beach at ferry and seawall. Things are pretty uncertain about what's happened. I'm not sure if my apartment has taken any damage and I don't know when power will be restored and they will let us back. Seems like it will be several weeks before we can even go back. Months before things are cleaned up Since I go to school at UTMB, I don't know what will happen. Classes obviously canceled indefinitely. I know how hard it is to forcast the hurricane path, but the late evac made things worse. Before that huge shift in the path, I thought we would have to evacuate for just the weekend.
It's really weird watching all the footage on TV of all the crap destroyed on Seawall, when I just drove down that street not too long ago. ALmost unbelievable. At least my fiancee and I are safe. I guess that's all that matters, but the whole situation is fubar right now.

Glad you guys are safe and did not try and ride it out.

Looking at the helicopter shots today looks like many buildings protected by the seawall itself remained but those beyond where that seawall ended are just cement slabs.

my parents live in the Houston area (Sugar Land) and as of last night 9pm they were still without power from Friday night/Saturday morning. Apparently the neighbors across the street had power restored, so it looks like the Power Co. just flipped the breakers and the lucky few (about 20% I'm told) who got power got it.

There were no downed power lines, but the Power co is saying up to 4 weeks before power is returned. You could bring power to remote African villages in 4 weeks! Thankfully no damage to the house & my folks are OK, but come on, they knew it was coming.

We didn't see any wind in SE Michigan, all we got was rain. We are under water.
