I just landed a new job(automation, electrical engineering). I will be leaving my current one in middle of nowhere Kansas for sunny southern California. I am very excited about the location, and the new job. Not so excited about packing and moving. The job is more pay and less hours , so that is exciting, also I won't be traveling anymore, so that is a win.

Can you elaborate? This is the field I am in (automation) although my degree is in Chemical Engineering. I interact with many electrical, computer, and mechanical engineers. It really takes all types for the automation field and there really is no formal education (4 year degree) for specifically it, just experience. People get a degree is some genre of engineering and then migrate to that type of work from there.

I currently work for a Systems Integrator(have since 2005).

I agree on the formal education of it. My degree is in computer engineering, and I have had to learn a lot on the job. In my opinion the work can vary greatly. I have done straight conveying/process programming, integration into SAP or ERP systems, and even some robotics.

My new job is mainly process controls, as I will be the Brewery Process Engineer for Stone Brewing Co. in Escondido.

actually it wasn't. but I'm sure I'll be ok. I already make enough that I could afford to live out there on my current pay, and that is all I am going to say about that.

Yup, but I will admit, I didn't take this position just for the money. I took it to slow down a bit. I have spent the last couple of years, constantly traveling, working long hours. Looking for a slight change of pace.

Thanks! Getting super excited. We got approved on our rental, it's actually in south Temecula, and we are almost ready to close on our house here. Next week we will be driving out!
