My Athena is 400Watts peak and it does 27hz...mine was $320

Yea...that's what I was gonna mention. My Infinity Perfect 12.1 goes down to 18hz. Since this Yamaha "1000W" sub is listed with it's peak power, I might add that my Perfect is 1400W peak but only 350W RMS...

A rather large and heavy Yamaha box appeared out of nowhere today. Saturday FedEx delivery, no less.

Here let me tell you this you can build a subwoofer for 300 dollars that will out do this sub literally about 3 times over.

350 RMS plate amp -150 shipped
1x15inch ED K series woofer 120 shipped

goto homedepot for some 3/4inch MDF do all the cuts there -$20
Buy a port at homedepot -$5

takes about an hour or 1.5 hours to glue and nail all the pieces together.

We have a 2500 velodyne woofer in our basement and this one is VERY VERY VERY comparable to it. for 300

its proted at 22 hz in a 4 ft cubic box.

Not everyone knows how to build a circuit, have time to put in some craftsmanship (possessing the right tools too), and nevertheless have the electronics know-how to do a D-I-Y project. Hence 299.-- is a small fee to pay for nice construction quality and build finish, along with a yamaha warranty.
Lets say $60/hr x 5 hr. = $300. Sounds about right.

The nice thing about a DIY sub is that its a feel good project, ie even the most challenged can get very satisfying results.
