Yamaha CRW8424E CD-RW doesn't recognize blank CD's...

This is so annoying because it was working fine in my K7T-Raid system.

In my new MSI K7T Pro-2a system this 8x4x24 Yamaha has caused nothing but trouble and now will not recognize a blank CD (5 different brands) using EZ CD creator 4 (latest revision).

When I try using Nero 5, it just freezes up and I have to go thru the Scandisk thing.

Other than that, it works fine but is useless.

I have all latest drivers for everything, maybe it's time to get an RMA from Yamaha?

I'm having the same problem with the 16x IDE model. Once into Windows, I load a blank CD. The adaptec software recognizes the blank and starts the software. I can burn from here fine. If I close the software at all, it won't recognize any blank media without a reboot. The system has a fresh install of 98se, latest firmware on everything and patches...etc etc..

The same happened to me on a 16x10x40x Yammy that I bought.
I took it back and got the TDK 12x10x32x and I'm glad I did, not one coaster yet, gota love that burnproof technology.

I was having that problem with my Acer 6x4x24 and I took it back and got the Acer 8x4x32 and it has worked flawlesly since I got ! I think it is time to get an RMA for you burner! Thats my opinion!

I spoke to one of the Yamaha techs from work and he said to make sure that DMA is not checked in the device mgr setting tab.

I doubt if that will work. It's out of there and replaced with a TDK 12/10/32 which just blazes.

Actually, the advice you got from Yamaha tech support is right on. I have the CRW8424EZ and had similar problems until I unchecked DMA.

My Yammy works perfect with DMA checked and all, Never once had a problem with it. I cant help but think that there is some sort of conspiracy here lol

One thing though the Adaptce software is not the greatest more than likely that is the source of your problem and not the drive itself. I'd check Adaptecs site for updates or even better yet download Nero and if you like it register that.
