This is one of those "mark it up and make it look like a sale" sales. It's a cheap receiver. One that shouldn't even carry the tuning forks name.

It's not a terrible receiver by any means. But it's a $200 receiver at the end of the day.

You're right, it's a cheap receiver; probably the best cheap receiver on the market. I got it last summer for $175, and I think it's well worth $180. You're not going to find anything better at this price.

This is the near-perfect companion for the Monoprice 5.1 speaker set. For a little more than what you'd pay for a cheap home theater in a box or a Logitech 5.1 system that has 10% THD D:, you'll end up with something far superior to either.

I got it that cheap because of a targeted 30% off coupon + 2% FatCash. Haven't seen it that cheap since.

If you have need of this, I'd go ahead and jump on it. FatWallet is offering 2% again, and Newegg rebates are slow but reliable. After rebate and FatCash, it'll be almost as cheap as I got it for.

I wouldn't say it's the best. But definitely good for its price. But your paying more for features over amperage.

It's a really good deal on a very good receiver. I would probably still rather go for the refurb RX-V475 for $270, but this is enough receiver for most people. Generally people spend way too much on receivers and not nearly enough on speakers. If someone buys a $600 receiver do go with Andrew Jones Pioneer speakers they are really not giving themselves the best sound for the money.

In for one. Thanks OP. I just moved a needed a now surround setup and got this and ordered the monoprice premium 5.1 surround speakers to go with it. Can't wait to set it all up!

this thing is a pretty gutless little scamp... gotta spin that go knob a bunch of times around to hear much out of the Pioneer SP-FS51-LR's... and i even set the default to 6ohms... not quite like my old pioneer 1980... but has all the plugs i need so it should be fine...

When you said you had AJ Pioneers, I assumed that you meant the little ones. Big speakers with relatively low sensitivity are probably not going to be a good match to this receiver. Sorry.

OTOH, I have mine paired with the Energy Take Classic 5.1 set and couldn't be happier with it.
