Wow.. those are just amazing concessions from an organization that labels anyone in favor of background checks for gun purchases as socialist traitors who hate America. And who pushed the government into repealing laws designed to prevent the mentally ill from owning guns.

Edit: maybe it helps to understand that the NRA is first and foremost a gun manufacturers' lobby whose agenda is to increase gun sales. So while a country like Switzerland has a high rate of gun ownership, the buying and selling of guns there is strictly regulated, and most Swiss gun owners own only 1 gun. And all that means overall gun sales are quite low. Which is something the NRA does not want.

This is so incorrect. Its not having access to firearms thats the problem. Its training. Switzerland for example is one of the highest per capita gun ownership countries in the world; however, their culture is to train, even kids, on proper firearm use. Also, red flag laws which help here in the US. and their murder rate is near zero for guns.

They also lock up the ammo in local armory and not in people's homes.

Just a fwiw, it doesn't even come close to the per capita ownership of the US. Switzerland - 27.6/100 compared to U.S. - 120.5/100 (according to wiki as of 2017)

Earlier in the thread someone said we need to be more socialist to control gun violence, and I brought up Switzerland as an example of a free market country, with high gun ownership rates, and almost zero gun crime. Guns dont need to be banned (not that it would would ever happen) to lower gun violence.

Switzerland is no less, or more free market than the vast majority of other European countries... yet has strong social programs in place and a mix of private and socialized health care with no one uncovered in the country.

Again, what is your point? This is that meme about nordic countries not being socialist, but adopting their programs will make us socialist.

Well there's the problem, we're only twice as high as the second place country. I'm sure if we can bump it up to triple that it will solve most of the issue. Throw in some video game restrictions and we'll be golden.

I like how the things that make US gun violence uniquely high constantly change but the one thing that's never the cause is our huge numbers of guns.

If we are talking about mental health being a part of the problem, then that problem is at least partially caused by our healthcare paradigm that greatly limits peoples ability to get mental healthcare.
