Obama had an executive order (EO) on his desk for awhile to expand the list, and lower the requirements, for labeling people dangerously mentally ill. It sat on his desk until AFTER the election. And Obama signed it BEFORE trump was sworn in. It didn't get very far because not only the NRA, but the ACLU and about two dozen mental health and disability groups lobbied to get a law passed that would rescind that EO, permanently (the bill trump signed).

The bill did NOT allow people who have been adjudicated with severe mental illnesses to be able to buy guns.

The Obama rule that Trump nullified had added people receiving Social Security checks for mental illnesses and people deemed unfit to handle their financial affairs to the national background check database.

That's it. And that's a good thing. To rescind that is fucking evil. I don't give a fuck who lobbied against it.

And FYI, they hated the EO because it "added stigma" to disabilities. But they NEVER addressed the issue of if you're ruled incompetent to handle your fucking SSDI check how in the holy fucking hell are you competent to handle a firearm???

That question is never answered. They merely objected to the stigma of it. Fuck them.

The Swiss have strict gun control laws that allow the government to tightly control who is allowed to own and possess a firearm, how many firearms an approved gun owner may own, and strict regulations on where they may transport those guns. Carry, either open or concealed, is tightly controlled and requires licenses that are difficult for private citizens to obtain. Buying and selling of firearms is limited to licensed gun dealers only, and every transaction must be approved by the govt. It is rare that a private citizen is allowed to own more than one firearm, unless they're considered antiques or collectibles. The govt has arbitrary authority over who can and who cannot own a firearm, with very little due process required to deny an individual the right to own or possess a gun. The storage location of every firearm is registered with and controlled by the govt.

This is the NRA's gunowners paradise.
