YAY...baseball is finally over. Now we can actually watch real sports on the television for another 6 months without any more of this uncapped unskilled steroid ridden filth where payroll buys nearly every championsip. 1994 was the best season of baseball ever.
Its hockey + football time!!!
both good sports. but baseball is a real sport too, and highly enjoyable.
Though I often have a difficult time watching baseball on TV, or really any sport for that matter. I need to be there to really enjoy, otherwise the temptations from ADD easily win over my mind.
Unlike a lot of sports, steroids really don't bring much benefit to baseball and I don't understand why some players make use of them.
All it might do is help crank out some more power hits, but for a power hit, you still have to have a lot of batting skill. You have to hit a ball dead on, with the right motion of the bat to get the ball traveling in the appropriate direction and correct loft, have to get the timing right, and locate the ball.
If you don't have that skill, steroids don't do shit.
And even then, I'm tempted to say steroids don't offer much more than a mental conditioning bonus, because even small framed guys can crank out home runs. If you can locate and make perfect contact with a ball, the opportunity is there for a power hit. Big ass muscles don't necessarily create faster arm motion. I really think it's just a mental bonus in that they think they can hit better, so their arm swing is better.
The finance situation is where the problems are. I really like seeing good baseball and some years you can get that without insanely high salaries.
I'm an Indians fan, but occasionally root for the Tigers (blasphemy right?) because I am a fan of players. The club has their AAA team in Toledo, and the Toledo Mudhens had a few years of absolutely excellency, and quite a few of those players have made a good name for themselves in Detroit. I like rooting for the local teams, and it just so happens that Detroit Jr happens to have their local teams affiliated with the Detroit teams.
I'm starting to follow the Columbus Blue Jackets more, but I'll always have a place in my heart to root for the Red Wings, as Toledo's hockey team is the ECHL team for Detroit.
If we had basketball I'd probably root for them, but actually probably not, because I don't think that would change my opinion on how boring and retarded basketball is as a sport. Really cannot even bring myself to enjoy college basketball, not even my own school's team. Though I root for them.
