I think it's about time we get a new acronym rolling as this guy and his trash heap of a state are not going to slow down anytime soon

Here's the latest in their "small gov't" policies. All becuase Disney stood up to him last year. The GOP is so impossibly pathetic and fragile.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis would get to appoint all five leaders of Disney’s special tax district in Orlando, under new legislation that was released on Monday.

The bill would make good on DeSantis’ promise last year to take over the district, after Disney criticized a state law that restricts instruction on gender identity and sexual identity.

The Legislature passed a bill last spring to dissolve the Reedy Creek Improvement District, which covers nearly 40 square miles in Orange and Osceola counties, including Disney World, EPCOT and other attractions. Disney has controlled the district since its inception in 1967.

That's the thing, under their new bill they get to take over the board of the District while leaving Disney on the hook for the Financials.

At least that's how I Understand the proposal.

Yeh, I can see it now: It'll be DeSantis Land where racists can shoot at and burn effigies of those murderous brown-skinned rapist immigrants they were taught to hate and where white sheets and pointy white hats are passed out for free, where red MGA hats can be seen everywhere one looks, where LGBTQ and women who've had abortions are banned, where religious freaks are celebrities and where tiki torch marches are held that end up at very large cross burnings, where Nazis can show off their seasonal dress uniforms accessorized with all the trendy accoutrements of the Third Reich all day every day and feel proud that they are adored and admired for their beliefs.

Disney can always simply move. And if DeSantis keeps it up , they will. Disney, New Mexico. Or Disney, Nevada. Give Las Vegas a run for their money. Imagine being able to ride the matterhorn AND gamble at Disneyland? Kids on the Tea Cup, and dad at the slots. Dreams really do come true, and for dad too.

Cheaper to replace DeSantis

I suspect there will be major litigation over the bill that will prevent Herr Destupid from doing anything for a long time, if ever.

Besides, like most morons of his ilk, he suffers from ADD. Once his presidential campaign starts he'll have bigger fish to fry. After all, it takes a lot of concentration to belittle, insult, and offend everybody who has more than three active brain cells. Disney probably won't even be on his radar then.

I think it's pretty hard for Disney to just pack up and move. I mean they can do it over the course of decades, but you can't just build a Disney World. It took nearly 5 years just to build SW Galaxy Edge.

This will end up costing FL a ton in legal fees. And I don't think they'll win either.

It would be very hard to move 40 square miles including, "Disney World, EPCOT and other attractions". As others have mentioned it would be easier to replace DeSantis. I think Disney could move jobs to other states, but I don't think they really want to play political games as much as the GOP does.

None of them actually care about winning, it's about looking like a "man" and striking out at their enemies.

All of this is such a clear first amendment violation it's insane, but the courts will play dumb about the obvious reasons behind these bills. Meanwhile the same judges will claim a private company on a private server is violating people's free speech.

Yeah moving Disney World is not happening. I could see them saying they will limit future investment in Florida but that’s about it.

If I were Disney I would focus more on how DeSantis just put Florida taxpayers on the hook for maintaining a vast and expensive infrastructure. Hope they like higher taxes!

Yeah, Disney won't move overnight. They will likely stop any new efforts and/or redirect them to Disneyland instead. They really don't need to do much at all in that regard to keep customers interested. But if they were to lose control of all their infrastructure to the state/county/whatever, I could see a serious decline in those capabilities leading to a downswing in business.

In general, it's just not a great idea to take a currently well running enterprise that contributes more to the state than anything else (outside of sunshine) and try to run it without having the ability, all while having to take on $1B+ in debt, and possibly not even having the legal grounds to attempt it in the first place.

Disney decided to step into the political arena, now they get to play the political game. They should have stuck with running world class parks.
Interesting that you think the government should retaliate against private citizens for saying things the government doesn't like. Seems like a pretty blatant violation of the first amendment to me.

They spoke out against the "don't say gay" bill. There's ZERO wrong with that.
And if you think Disney has not been politically active before that, you're sadly mistaken.

I hope Floridians enjoy paying for all those services in the Kissimmee county. They are going to get a HEFTY bill in the mail.

Disney isn't a private citizen.
They made a business deal, that deal has now ended because of the actions Disney has taken.
