YARIAAT: POLL: let's do RIAA's poll here...

The RIAA released a survey on Wednesday conducted by Peter D. Hart Research Associates between Sept. 4-6 that the RIAA claims shows an "overwhelming majority of music consumers" support and understand the industry's decision to gather evidence and take legal action "against individual computer users who are illegally sharing substantial amounts of copyrighted music online."

The survey question, asked of 803 consumers age 10 and over, was: "When you hear that the recording industry is gathering evidence and preparing lawsuits against individual computer users who are illegally sharing substantial amounts of copyrighted music online, would you say that you are supportive and understanding of the recording industry's decision to take these actions, or unsupportive and negative about what the recording industry's decision to take these actions?"

I think the results or their poll were 52% supportive and 21% unsupportive...I don't know who exactly they polled, but i'm expecting somewhat different results here.

So wheres the guy who will post about how he'd pay a dollar for a song but not 16 for a whole cd he only likes one song about.


It seems everytime the riaa or mp3s are mentioned, no matter what the topic someone puts this opinion out like its original.


Anyways, RIAA=suck. If music wasn't so controlled by them i would not mind one bit what they do. But in its current state the only stuff that really gets out is owned and controlled by them, no matter what the artists wishes are.

Therefore, down with the RIAA. Viva la revolutione'

well, if I put that option in the poll, it would probably instantly become the most popular option, and then the poll would be worthless (ok, so the poll is close to worthless right now ).

How about just assuming that the current option of "unsupportive and negative about what the recording industry's decision" is equivalent-to/paraphrasing-of "RIAA=suck"

I understand their position. Just because everyone shares and has come to expect that music is and should be free doesn't make it right.

Got to admit though, it is the only way people will stop pirating music. People think just because the technology is there to rip music, its legal and right.


I voted however to " I could care less either way" . Because I actually buy music.

Doesn't this remind you all of the American Revolution and salutary neglect? ie... there were taxes on shipping but Brits didn't care for awhile. Then they started caring after the Seven Years/French-Indian war... then the Americans all got mad that their right to smuggle was gone... then they revolted........

The statistical methods employed by both of these polls are flawed, though due to ATOT's tendency to respond to polls and diverse range of opinions, this one is far less flawed.

RIAA's poll was likely conducted using a convenience style sampling. First 100 people to walk into RIAA headquarters were polled. The 21 that didn't support were there to pay settlements.
