Is it really the backlight that's the culprit or the extra processing power for decoding the stream and the fact the HDD spindle motor needs to run all the time? Most likely a combination of all of the above but a breakdown would be nice.

The backlight issue is easily taken care of by retrofit with a tritiated aerogel panel (100 Ci H3) plenty bright but fairly bluish as the true white phosphors (currently) need more than the 18 keV beta supplied by the tritium.

It works fine for me, since I use it for about an hour between classes or so, watching videos, then for about two hours in the gym just listening to music. I can plug it in at home every night or at work, for a nice juicy charge, which I do anyway for moving data around. Only time I see it being an issue for me is if I plan on taking it traveling, since I have no laptop and it only charges via USB now.. that sucks.
