lol
The best way to do that would have been to pit stop her. OR just fallow her until she stops.
Fireing onto a van full of people (wich most miss) over a fucking ticket is not protecting the public.
this was mishandled
Another reason she should shut up, cooperate, and take the speeding ticket.She had drug paraphernalia in her car which is why she freaked out. Not that I'm excusing her behavior AT ALL. Just getting the info out there.
Your not reading what was already posted...sure the mother was a dipshit...but the lone cop and yes it was just one cop who did the shooting came upon the scene and didn`t bother to ask any of the cops who were already on the scene what the circumstances were.
Instead he just fired.......none of the other cops had their weapons drawn...this was a lone rogue cop who wanted to shoot his weapon at a van that he was not informed had children inside!!
Mother==dispshit!!
Lone cop==unemployed asshat dipshit cop!!
The big question is will it be a high speed or slow speed chase? The family is unarmed. I don't agree with the mother but if you are on your last dime and then handed a $400 ticket that will set some people over the edge.
wow, OT is split 50/50 on this. not surprised at the type of people that voted that it was justified. i could already tell.
'A uniformed officer can shoot three bullets at my van and be considered to be doing his job, but my doing what I can to get my own children away from such a terrifying individual has been termed child abuse and endangerment, according to New Mexico law,' she wrote.
Calling herself a 'peace officer,' Farrell writes: 'As a single, African-American mother of five in this country, things are tough enough I should not have to endure harassment at the hands of someone who has been hired to protect the citizens of this land over an alleged speeding offense. No one should.'

for their own safety, peepul have a right to take proper precautions, such as making sure they arent pulling over in an isolated place with a cop. there have been cops that were serial killers, rapists, thieves, shake downers, etc...ive read about stuff like that in bay area newspapers even in the last monthI laughed when I read that quote...before you ever posted it.
She had no interaction at all with that officer and she wasn't "trying to get her kids away from him." It's a ludicrous lie.
The officer shot at the tires. Regardless of whether-or-not it's considered to be "standard operating procedure," it *absolutely is* justified based on the circumstances.
No! There pit maneuver is extremely dangerous!
Her reaction will lead to much greater expense than that.
The people in the van were retarded in how they handled themselves, but cop also went WAY overboard over a damn ticket. Can't they just let them go but still file the ticket + another ticket for fleeing the scene? Basically it would go in their mail or just come straight out of their pay cheque or something. Perhaps they'd even lose their right to fight it because of the fact that they fled the scene. Though I guess if that was possible it could be dangerous. Bad cops could just look at random license plate numbers and file tickets. Though if they made it so it requires video evidence of the situation and the license plate has to be visible in the video I suppose such a system could work.
There are situations where it's just not worth pursuing if it's going to have to involve violence to pursue. This was one of them. But then had the cop let them go, and they turn out to be some group of criminals going to rob a bank then it would look bad on the cop. So I imagine this is a tough situation for a cop to gauge in the heat of the moment.
of course but you are dealing with someone who doesn't know it. Should death be her next destination?
No detainment should be. That's why the officer shot her tire.
You shoot the tire with a van loaded with kids. The van has some house stuff on the roof . Her car tire gets shot at then her van overturn killing the little girl in the back but her mother survives. What happens next?

You get more than a ticket for assaulting an officer. Also, she's from another state where these troopers would have no way to collect the fine.
For all they know, the person is running away because the vehicle is stolen...and the tag won't help you there.
After the first officer was assaulted, I have no problem with that other officer shooting out the rear tire. Even though it was not standard operating procedure, I have absolutely no problem with it.
she and her kid shouldnt have acted like idiots and assaulted the police and been driving around w/ drug paraphernalia and trying to escape
what SHOULD happen next is people realize she's an idiot, and whatever happens to them is her fault
what DOES happen next is this weeks edition of YASECT
Bad shoot IMHO. There was no immediate danger to anyones life when they fled. They should have just pursued and put the vehicle to a hard stop. If he had shot while being assaulted by the kids and mother I would have less of a problem with it.
