That is exactly what it is. What those people don't realize is that when you basically give the police carte blanch power to assault anyone they want to, regardless of what is warranted or even if the person did any wrongdoing, they could very well one day be on the receiving end of that. Hell, I have seen people argue on the side of cops when they no knock the wrong house and shoot the beat the crap out of the innocent owner in front of his family. It is absurd what some police get away with today, especially when one considers that relatively few of the incidents are actually caught on film and posted online.
As was said, this didn't even look like an overly stressful situation (I understand that I can be very wrong but going with what we have) so its not a stretch to assume he could act in a similar manner during something as simple as a normal traffic stop.
I agree wholeheartedly, but there is a flip side to your argument. When the average idiot feels empowered to ignore and argue with a lawful order from a law enforcement officer no good will ever come of it.
How often is an incident like this preceded by an idiot getting in a cops face and arguing with his orders? Not that the woman in this video was resisting, but why do people so often think they have the right to make demands and refuse to be taken into custody? There is no legal responsibility for a cop to negotiate with someone he is trying to detain. All that happens later in court.
I won't excuse what the cop in this video did, but the common misconception that cops can be ignored or argued with (or you can get in their face and shoot them with silly string) is dangerous.
We should demand that our law enforcement start acting more professional AND that our citizens start acting a little more respectful. We're supposed to be a democracy. If you don't like the laws you change them at the polls or in congress, not on the streets.
