That is exactly what it is. What those people don't realize is that when you basically give the police carte blanch power to assault anyone they want to, regardless of what is warranted or even if the person did any wrongdoing, they could very well one day be on the receiving end of that. Hell, I have seen people argue on the side of cops when they no knock the wrong house and shoot the beat the crap out of the innocent owner in front of his family. It is absurd what some police get away with today, especially when one considers that relatively few of the incidents are actually caught on film and posted online.

As was said, this didn't even look like an overly stressful situation (I understand that I can be very wrong but going with what we have) so its not a stretch to assume he could act in a similar manner during something as simple as a normal traffic stop.

I agree wholeheartedly, but there is a flip side to your argument. When the average idiot feels empowered to ignore and argue with a lawful order from a law enforcement officer no good will ever come of it.

How often is an incident like this preceded by an idiot getting in a cops face and arguing with his orders? Not that the woman in this video was resisting, but why do people so often think they have the right to make demands and refuse to be taken into custody? There is no legal responsibility for a cop to negotiate with someone he is trying to detain. All that happens later in court.

I won't excuse what the cop in this video did, but the common misconception that cops can be ignored or argued with (or you can get in their face and shoot them with silly string) is dangerous.

We should demand that our law enforcement start acting more professional AND that our citizens start acting a little more respectful. We're supposed to be a democracy. If you don't like the laws you change them at the polls or in congress, not on the streets.

This thread, this post in particular, truly makes me disappointed for society.

Punching a woman in the face is not in the police handbook on how to handle unruly crowds, the last time I checked.

looks like some other chick threw a liquid at the cops and this poor woman was mistaken as the culprit.

The big stream of water that got most of their attention wasn't from her, but she was throwing stuff too.

The cop should have kept his cool, but I'm also not sorry to see that woman get a beating.

Cop was wrong, period. Welcome to the job. Cops have to be ready and able to be spit on, called all manner of offensive things, even injured on the job and still be able to uphold the law in as calm and collected manner as is possible under the circumstances.

I'm white and a Military Policeman. I've been in establishments with primarily minority patrons and been called all manner of racist things and just gone about my business.

Best story I have is when one of my patrolmen pulled over a black woman for speeding. She spit on him and called him a racist pig, etc. Two nights later she called 911 because her child was non-responsive after being left unattended in a bathtub. The officer that gave her a ticket two nights earlier was first on scene and performed first aid and saved the child who had ingested water into his lungs. Sweet justice happened when she tried to hug him and thank him and with me as witness, he remained calm, put his hands out, and stated "Nope, I'm the racist pig from the other night. You're welcome ma'am."

You're ignoring the fact that even if she were yelling "Kill the pigs!" or "Let's riot!" it wouldn't justify hitting her in the face when she posed no threat to anyone.

She could be cited or Disorderly conduct in most counties or municipality's if she said something really nasty to those cops, however her arrest should have then proceeded as a normal one, arms behind back, handcuffing ect, turning and delivering a blow to the face would not be part of a normal detention unless the detainee was delivering the same type of force in trying not to be arrested which is nonexistent in this case. She's gonna win big $$ IMO..

Good, glad someone caught that, maybe lessen the charges against the Cop somehow, she's an asshole IMO..

Awesome, even better.

So now the appropriate counter to someone spraying silly string is blindly punching them in the face. Good to know where you stand.

Despicable.

This says it all that chick is not work with a full deck.

uh, that gif looks like its photoshopped (probably by the Philadelphia PD). if you compare the gif to the video, you don't see any silly strings coming from her.

I can see it at the very beginning especially if you go 720p on it full screen. I can also see it landing miserably short of any police officer. I can see no police react to her at all. Then a couple seconds goes by and the water gets tossed from behind her (probably getting her wet, too). Seems pretty clear that the silly string had nothing to do with the eventual cold cocking and being mistaken as the water tosser.

I guess the local law enforcement departments have really pushed the Punch 101 training to the hilt. Sounds like such a classy move. Why give them guns when they find it so easy to use physical violence to protect [themselves] and serve [their own needs].

Why would it lessen the charges simply because a rather small woman threw a rather small amount of water out of her bottle (with questionable intent) with even less hitting the rather large men, one of whom sucker punched said small woman in the face?

If you punched your wife like that and told the judge "Well, some water came out of her water bottle and a few drops hit me on the head" do you seriously expect him to say "Oh hell, why didn't you say so, case dismissed"?

(CNN) -- A uniformed Philadelphia police officer seen in an online video striking a woman after he was hit by a liquid will be fired, the city's police commissioner announced Wednesday.
Lt. Jonathan Josey will be suspended first for 30 days, effective Thursday, "with the intent to dismiss," according to a release from Police Commissioner Charles H. Ramsey's office.
Josey could not be reached for comment Wednesday night.
Meanwhile, the district attorney dropped a disorderly conduct charge against the woman shown on the video, Aida Guzman, Wednesday afternoon.

the bad cop is going to be fired. Good!

she was sprying silly string. though not at the officers. though not that it matters. it wouldn't have justified the assault on her. though it would the charges (witch were dropped)

he woman, wearing a black shirt and jeans, is on the left side of the video and has a can in her left hand. The woman raises her left arm as she hops around behind one of the officers. The woman sprayed "Silly String" near the officers but didn't hit them, Latoison said.

Given the number of complaints already filed against him before this incident, I doubt his career would survived the video.
