imagine thinking every school needs a security guard
(hint, if we don't have guns, we won't have school shootings anymore)

the idea that we simply need to guard our children better is a total and utter failure to imagine a future where such a thing is unnecessary because we have removed the tools that make these events possible in the first place.

yes, if i were benevolent dictator i would thanos-snap private firearm ownership out of existence with minimal exception (e.g. hunting clubs and ranges where arms are stored on premises, not in private homes).

Beyond the availability of guns, I'm not sure that school resource officers do more benefit than harm anyway. Softening schools is the right direction.

As stupid as this sounds.. the only way Americans will ever get rid of the stupidity is to repeal the second amendment just like they repealed the 18th.

And the ignoring of the status quo puts us closer to that every waking day!

I hope more and more people realize where the battle lines have been drawn. These people are deplorable and irredeemable.

Perhaps over hundreds of years some can be reached, but if you wait for that, you'll lose all your freedoms to them first.

Know. The. Enemy.
You gotta know who the enemy is...

Seriously. People need to stop thinking "well, this time it'll be different." If Newtown and Parkland didn't move the needle, nothing will.

It is the risk we all take living in America in 2023. It is what it is.

So let's say we arm schools. What about grocery stores, theatres, concert venues, sporting events? How about we have an armed guard on every street corner in America? Just curious where the right thinks this line of thinking/solution takes us.

And I am 100% sure they will soon try to implement laws restricting what segments of the population can own guns or not. THAT kind of gun control, they will be all over it. Once you paint any segment of society as "evil" or simply as persona non grata - it is very easy to mobilize support to strip that segment of any rights they wish to. It's coming.
All the jostling, recriminations, excuses... there's only one way this will be solved - take the guns away. Repeal the 2nd Amendment, then make it a bitch-ass 10+ years in prison felony to possess firearms starting with assault rifles...

Ahem....
This is the United States
That would result in the taking away of property and as we all know, property is more important than life.
You for example are worth less than 32 inch TV.
Many gun owners have clearly stated that the value of their firearm is worth more than the life of law enforcement officer.
If someone is willing to murder a civil servant who shows up to confiscate banned items, you are definitely worth less than a Vizio.

Public schools often have a school resource officer....

I am informed that a nearby rural school district has one resource officer. One, to cover three schools. Going to guess they are stationed at the high school.

There's an episode of Last Week Tonight on this subject, it came to the conclusion that they do more harm than benefit.

I don't think it's stupid, seems pretty reasonable. Kinda feels like our continued failure to protect our youngest is an indictment of our entire system. The country collectively sits idly by as it happens again and again and again, in "the greatest country on Earth". At the very least we could revert to the days when guns were a hobby and not a lifestyle, and the NRA advocated for responsible stewardship. Many people love guns more than (biblical) Jesus now, that much is clear.

We continue to be tolerant of the intolerant and dumb down our society because of it. Nothing will change, whether it’s school shootings or book bans, until we stand up to the fascist.

No need. Expand the courts to drown out the federalist society judges and put in place judges that interpret the 2nd as it was originally intended, as a right for states to protect themselves.

Complete bans in blue states and give them the ability to confiscate any that cross state lines.

Days like J6th are why peeps won't give up their guns nor should they. Drunks kill more people with cars but nobody's rushing the gates on that one either.

Wtf are you talking about? Not only are there many laws with regards to alcohol but there are also many laws with regards to drunk driving including things like checkpoints, breathalyzers starters for serial offenders and outright license removal.

What a completely fucking stupid post you made.

The difference between drunk driving and mass shootings is that we don’t have idiots like yourself and a whole political party trying to stop laws that deal with drunk driving from passing.

Holy fucking stupidity!

Yeah, because we don't have any laws to curb drunk driving or no regulations to help prevent injury when cars get into accidents...

Holy shit some of you are so far gone it's hopeless.

Yeah, exactly. Not like anyone is doing anything about drunk driving.

Driving while 2nd Amendmenting

This case was dismissed under stand your ground in Florida. Because you are totally standing your ground when you get your gun and accelerate so you can catch up to someone in order to defend yourself by chasing someone down.

While likely true (that it'd work), any talk about repealing the 2A or banning/confiscating is never going to happen.

You re-institute the '94 assault weapon ban. After you do fed court reform.

This thread sums it up better than I could.

Be VERY CAREFUL what you wish for, re: red flag laws. The GOP will absolutely weaponize this approach. They will expand the definition of "mentally unfit" to include any non-conformist behavior. What's next? Muslim? Atheist? Woke? Ever served on a DEI committee? They will eventually label any or all of these things as mentally ill, deviant, etc. That gives them cover to strip people of their rights, or worse yet, something like mass incarceration like alluded to in the tweet below. This SCOTUS will likely allow it?

What happens next? I don't know, but there's definitely this feeling of some big push/movement about to happen.

We don’t even have to ban all guns. Keep bolt action rifles for hunting legal, shotguns for home defense, MAYBE revolvers. How muskets for militias got perverted into semi automatic weapons of war with extended magazines for everyone is beyond me.
